Left back David Burrows arrived at Anfield in a 500,000 deal from West Bromwich Albion in October 1988. He made his debut at Anfield in the 1-1 draw with Millwall and almost scored with a fierce shot that just shaved the bar.

An all-action player, Burrows formed a good partnership down the left with John Barnes. A fierce tackler, 'Bugsy' got his fair share of bookings and gave away the occasional penalty with a rash challenge but he was popular at Liverpool.

Burrows always gave 100 per cent and was always committed for the Reds cause. He was disappointed to miss out on a place in the team for the 1989 FA Cup Final with Everton at Wembley, which went to Steve Staunton.

However, Burrows bounced back the following season to play his part in helping Liverpool win the league title. He scored his first goal in the 3-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton in September 1991, with a fierce angled drive past Neville Southall in front of the Kop.

Under Graeme Souness, Burrows days at Anfield were numbered and just after the start of the 1993-94 season he was sold, alongside Mike Marsh, to West Ham United in a swap deal for Julian Dicks. Most Liverpool fans were sorry to see him leave Anfield.

Burrows wasn't away from Merseyside for long however, and returned for a short spell with Everton before he was on his travels again to Coventry City. He is currently at Birmingham City, but suffered another disappointment in a cup final when he was left out of the 16 to play Liverpool in the Worthington Cup Final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
