SavoyNet!

LogoWelcome to Savoynet, an unmoderated electronic mailing list dedicated to discussion of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, the operas they wrote, British culture and musical theater of their time, and related matters.

Savoynet was founded by Bill Venman, who was surfing the information highway one day in 1992 and found practically nothing relating to the greatest librettist/composer team in the history of the lyric theater. After several months at the University of Massachusetts, Savoynet transferred to Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia, where it has resided ever since.

The listowner of Savoynet is Marc Shepherd. Marc took over the job in late 1998, afterRalph MacPhail, Jr., put in several years of yeoman service. Send Marc an email if you have any questions about Savoynet.

How to Join:
To subscribe to Savoynet, send a plain text email tolistserv@bridgewater.eduwith nothing in the subject line and

in the message body.

Please Note: Savoynet's listserv does not accept "rich text" or "HTML formatted" e-mail. If you receive an incomprehensible error message from the listserv, you have probably sent a "rich text" message. All e-mail systems have the capability of sending plain text. Your subscription request cannot succeed unless you send plain text.

After subscribing, you will receive an acknowledgement and introductory message from the list server within a short while. After that, expect to receive about forty to eighty G&S-related messages per day from SavoyNetters around the world. Feel free to lurk or to actively contribute, as suits your fancy.

Messages to SavoyNet should be emailed tosavoynet@bridgewater.edu. Note that SavoyNet accepts messages from current subscribers only, and you_must_ send your postings from the same email address that you subscribed from.

These are the basics. If you'd like to know more, you can browse one of the following topics:
