NY-24 Mike Arcuri (original) (raw)

Michael Arcuri is the 46 year old Oneida County District Attorney in upstate New York. Born and raised in Utica, he attended the State University of Albany where he was a Division III All-American football player. He won his first elective office in 1993 in a come-from-behind race against a well-funded establishment opponent in a Republican county and has been re-elected three times since, the last two times with no opposition. At the relatively young age of 43, he was elected President of the New York State District Attorneys Association.

Over the past twelve years, Michael has been a pro-active District Attorney, keeping his promise to be a leader against crime and for expanded crime prevention programs. Under his leadership, his office has earned one of the highest conviction rates (consistently over 90%) in the state. He was the driving force behind a number of innovative programs, including the county Drug Task Force, the Utica Arson Task Force, a Special Victims Unit within his office, the first successful Drug Court Program in the county, and one of the first Drug Treatment Alternative To Prison programs (D-TAP) in upstate New York. Most significantly, he persuaded the County Legislature to adopt a Drug Forfeiture Law which helped to raise over $1,000,000 in revenue to fund the public safety efforts of a number of government agencies. In 1997, he received the distinction of being the first man ever to win the Mohawk Valley Person of the Year Award from the YWCA for his work in the area of Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse.

Ray Meier
Ray Meier was named "Rubber Stamp of the Week" by the DCCC because, just like Republicans in Washington, Meier voted against increasing the minimum wage, not once but twice. New York families used to independent leadership deserve a member of Congress who will fight for the things they care about most, like being paid a reasonable minimum wage. They do not deserve someone who simply toes the line, while auditioning to rubberstamp the failed agenda of George Bush and the Republican leadership.
