AROUND JOTUNHEIMEN
8 days trip; Departures March 18th and 25th, and April 1st.
This tour starts at Gjendesheim, a traditional DNT hut built in 1878, but now restored and extended to a modern style. The week is spent in the eastern part of the Park, probably the most visited area where many young people have their first hut-tohut experience. Both Galdhpiggen and Glittertind are situated here. The snow conditions are generally good, but dont forget your skins. The tour is challenging, no peaks are climbed but there are some steep climbs, traverses and downhills when crossing high mountain passes.
LONGER STAY
If you prefer to take it easy and not have to move on from hut to hut every day, then the answer may be to stay for a few days in one place. Then you can use the opportunity to get to know an area more intimately, including climbing to local peaks, with only a day sack. Our serviced huts have a friendly and cosy atmosphere and are ideal bases for short day trips or, indeed, longer day tours if conditions suggest. There are also special offers for stays of several days.
JOTUNHEIMEN The most magnificent mountain massif in Norway is Jotunheimen, and consequently the most popular mountain hiking area. Here you will find sharp ridges, high plateaux, glaciers, lakes and valleys with rivers and waterfalls. All of Norways summits over 2300 metres are to be found here, with Galdhpiggen, 2469 m, Glittertind, 2452 m and Store Skagastlstind, 2405 m, the three highest summits in Norway.
Nothing can match its beauty sunny winters day. There are a number of lodges/huts in the area, both staffed and self service, and if the weather does not allow you to climb the mountain peaks, you can nevertheless usually continue to tour the valleys or the lower parts. When exploring this wonderful region , pay attention to the weather forecast. The weather changes fast, and your backpack should be packed accordingly.
