Sieboldportrait

Philipp Franz von Siebold, born 17th February 1796 in Würzburg / Germany, is considered to be the scientific discoverer of Japan. To commemorate the medical doctor and botanical scientist, the Würzburg basedSiebold-Gesellschaft (Siebold-Society) supported by theCity of Würzburg and numerous Japanese and German sponsors opened the Siebold-Museum on 3rd July 1995.

Inside a former directors residence from 1887 there are two museum floors, a German- Japanese meeting centre, a library and two guest appartments.
The permanent exhibition displays selected parts of the researcher's life in Germany and in Japan.

In addition, there arespecial displays, which are announced especially.

According to Siebolds idea of a_peaceful co-existence of different cultures_ the place is used for events like concerts, presentations or conferences, too.
