The purpose of this Data Catalog is to provide the public with access to the digital geographic data produced by the GIS Executive Council, and Maine GeoLibrary Board. The Data Catalog is hosted and maintained by the Maine Office of GIS (MEGIS). Users may use this site to download geographic data and the associated metadata. Users who wish to download data agree to understand and abide by the terms and conditions of the Maine Office of GIS License Agreement.

The five 'tabs' near the top of this page correspond to the different ways in which our data layers are distributed, Tile (7.5-minute (24k) USGS and other quadrangle map extents), Wtrshd (Watersheds, or Hydrologic Units), Town (township boundaries), County (county boundaries), and Single (single continuous coverages, often statewide).

Maine GIS data is referenced by the following coordinate system, units, and datum:

UTM Zone 19, meters, NAD 83

If you would like to search the metadata by keyword, please click the 'Search' button at the top of this page.

The process for locating and downloading data is as follows:

  1. Preview the table of contents.
  2. Select the tab representing the type of data most suitable to your purpose
  3. Click the check box next to the name of the data layer that you wish to download.
  4. From the drop-down list, select the way you would like to reference available data (tile, town, county, watershed, etc).
  5. Select by a list of specific tiles, town, counties, watersheds to focus the results of your search. (This step does not apply to Single Coverages).
  6. Search results are displayed alphabetically, first by the reference selection you have made, then by map extent and data layer name.
  7. If data exists, a status report and a hyperlink that includes the compressed file size will display. You may click this link or Download to obtain the file.

This is a limited access service and it is not practical to download large amounts of data. All data is compressed with pkzip.
