NASCAR BUSCH SERIES / CIRCUIT GILLES-VILLENEUVE, Pedal Pushers :Play-Montréal : The city life in stereo (original) (raw)

NascarNow that Will Ferrell and Sasha Baron Cohen have paved the way for French drivers in one of America’s most hallowed sports, it seems only fitting that the Busch Series makes its Canadian debut in la belle province. NASCAR is the most-watched motor sport on television in Canada, with an estimated 5.8 million viewers nationwide. In Montréal, speed rules: attendance for the Grand Prix tops 300,000 over three days, and transforms the downtown core into party central. This bodes well for NASCAR, not to mention hometown favourite Patrick Carpentier, who will drive in the inaugural race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Series regulars Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Robby Gordon will be gunning for him, but Carpentier, who races in round 11 of the 2007 Daytona Prototype series the day before, has the crowd. The hammer drops Friday, August 3 with the Grand-Am Rolex Series, featuring a race from the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.
