KUALA TERENGGANU: Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, who will be proclaimed the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong today, was moved to tears with his parting message during yesterdays proclamation of eight-year-old Tengku Muhammad Ismail as the Regent of Terengganu.

He told the three-member Regency Advisory Council to discharge well the responsibilities entrusted to them and uphold the good name of the committee.

Since the Regent is too young, the council headed by Raja Tengku Baderulzaman, who is Sultan Mizans younger brother, was established to carry out the responsibilities of a Regent.

The others are Sultan Mizans uncle Tengku Sri Laksamana Raja Tengku Sulaiman Ismail, and Federal Court judge Datuk Abdul Kadir Sulaiman.

During his speech, Sultan Mizans voice trembled and he was in tears when he told the audience that he would continue to pray for Terengganu and its people during his absence.

Although physically I will be far away, it will only be out of sight, but not out of mind. The fact is, I will always be in the hearts of the Terengganu people, he added.

Several of those present were touched by Sultan Mizans speech and were seen wiping away tears.

The Sultan also told the state government under the leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh to cooperate with the Council during his absence.

The proclamation of Tengku Muhammad Ismail as the Regent was read by Tengku Sri Bendahara Raja Tengku Mustaffa Kamel.

Tengku Muhammad Ismail is among the youngest Malay princes to be appointed Regent, while Sultan Mizan was among the youngest princes to be made a Ruler.

At the proclamation, Tengku Muhammad Ismail was also bestowed the Darjah Kerabat Terengganu Yang Amat Mulia (DK I) award by his father. Bernama
