According to the story, Kadilanggu was the village freed from payment of taxes as result of assuming some burden or responsibility. It was the gift from Sultan Patah to Sunan Kalijaga due to his service to spread Islam and develop Demak kingdom.Those pious leaders made a lot of efforts to spread Islam. The Grave of Sunan Kalijaga Makam Sunan KalijagaMakam Sunan KalijagaTHE GRAVE OF SUNAN KALIJAGAThe grave of Sunan Kalijaga is situated in Kadilangu district, of which distance is more or less 1 kilometer at the south side of Demak. The grave of Sunan Kalijaga from time to time is always crowded with visitors either at the day time or night time, above all at Thursday night on Kliwon (Javanese calendar).Sunan Kalijaga or Raden Said is one of nine pious leaders, he was born in Tuban in A.D. 1455, he is the son of Adipati Tuban Wilatika and Dewi Sukawati, a princess of Majapahit. Sunan Kalijaga has strength in wisdom when spreading Islam, he used traditional and cultural element of Java as the media to spread the religion. Finally he lived in Kadilangu, Demak up to his death and was buried there in A.D. 1586. They say Sunan Kalijaga was blessed to have long age so that he could experienced three governmental eras, those are Demak Kingdom, Pajang Kingdom, and the early Mataram Kingdom.One of the central pillar of Masjid Agung Demak is the work of Sunan Kalijaga, that is “Saka Tatal” which is made of wood parts bound into one.
