Practice Experience

Ana is a lawyer qualified in Romanian and international law, with more than 10 years of experience in banking, finance, commercial and international law. Her main focus has been on insolvency and cross-border insolvency proceedings (both reorganisations and liquidations), as well as the bankruptcies of financial institutions.

Before joining the Financial Restructuring and Insolvency Group in Bucharest, Ana worked with White & Case LLP, New York, as a member of the Finance, Banking and Restructuring Group, being specialised in insolvency and bankruptcy law, cross-border insolvency and financial banking reorganisations and restructuring. She worked on major transactions such as ENRON, MCI-Worldcom, United Airlines, US AIR, UPC and Ahold.

Ana is also teaching the first insolvency procedure course and is the head of the research group of insolvency, bankruptcy law and financial reorganisation at the University's Law Faculty. Since returned to Romania in 2003, she held various senior advisory positions in the Romanian Government.

From 1996-1998, Ana headed the legal department of an important insurance company in Romania, advising on loss recovery from insurance and reinsurance contracts. She also had senior responsibilities in initiating, promoting and adopting the Romanian insurance and reinsurance legislation.

Ana was the first Romanian simultaneously admitted to the best law universities in the world, such as Harvard, Oxford, Yale, Cambridge, and New York University. She received a magna cum laude LL.M. from Yale Law School, USA, and followed the doctoral courses under the guidance of Dean Anthony T. Kronman. She was granted a doctoral Goldman Scholarship by Yale Law School. Ana also held a Summer School Scholarship at the Columbia University, USA, in 1996.
