The Swiss airline has its headquarters in Glattbrugg and its base airport is Zurich. Belair is a subsidiary of Hotelplan Management AG. Belair airlines was founded in 2001 as a rescue company for the Swissair subsidiary Balair. Initially the airline operated only charter flights to holiday destinations.
In November 2007, Air Berlin acquired a 49 per cent stake in Belair from the previous sole proprietor, Hotelplan, and assumed economic responsibility for the Swiss airline. Hotelplan remains Belairs most important customer, although the airline also offers flights to other tour operators, as well as selling seat-only tickets.
Belair operates two Boeing 757s on its routes, which now fly in Air Berlin livery, carrying passengers to holiday destinations around the Mediterranean. One Boeing 767 under the Belair label takes off for long-haul destinations in Asia, North America and the Caribbean.
