Pictures of Main Library Upper Floor (original) (raw)

Located on the third floor of the Library is the Reference Section, Genealogy Section, Business Section, Periodical Section, Newspaper Section, Computer Lab, and the Library Board Room.

At the top of the stairway is the Pine Bluff Pine mosaic, produced in 1969 by Don Marr.

(Note: Professor Marr joined Hendrix College faculty in 1959. He served many years as the chair of the art department at Hendrix, retiring in 2000.)

The Information Desk is located to the right of the staircase.

The upper floor is staffed by our Reference Staff, who assist with patron's needs which include computers, genealogy, and general reference questions.

The Computer Lab has 16 computers. The lab is a very busy place. About 1/3

of the people who visit the Main Library, use a computer. A printer is

just outside the lab, and it only cost 10 cents per page to print.

The computer lab is one of the busiest areas of the Library.

The north side of the floor holds the Genealogy section, and to the right of it, the reference section.

The Genealogy Section includes three computers, one connected to the Internet, and two for FamilySearch, a photocopier, six microfilm readers, two microfilm printers, and six tables with seating for 24, along with seating at the index tables. The genealogy area also includes the Arkansas Collection, and the Williamson Historical Research room, and three genealogy computers.

The periodicals area where one can get a copy of the latest newspaper, magazine or journal. Most of our magazines can be checked out just like a book, as long as it is not the newest edition, which are kept on the wooden shelves located to the left in this picture.

Behind the Pine Bluff Pine mosaic is the Library Board room. This room can be used by the public for meetings. For more information, call the Library and ask for the Secretary.
