The Shock defeated the Rattlers in both of their meetings this season.

July 2, 2010– Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock defeated the Arizona Rattlers tonight, 37-36, for its tenth win of the season. The Shock are the first team in the AFL with ten wins and with only two losses, they have the best record in the league.

Coming into tonight’s game, Spokane and Arizona’s offenses averaged 131.3 (combined) points per game, but it was their defenses that took center stage.

Spokane’s defense helped set the tone, creating Arizona’s first turnover late in the first quarter. With the Rattlers’ offense deep in Spokane territory, QB Nick Davila connected with WR Rod Windsor for a nine-yard completion. After Windsor made the catch, he stretched to reach the endzone only to have DB Alex Teems force a fumble and then recover it to put Spokane’s offense in business.

Six plays later, Spokane’s QB Kyle Rowley connected with WR Shaun Kauleinamoku for a five-yard touchdown reception that put the Shock up 13-7.

Despite Windsor’s turnover, he still had a game-high 13 receptions for 92 yards with two touchdowns and earned the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game award. Spokane’s defense locked down the rest of Arizona’s receiving corps, holding the remaining three receivers to under 50 yards apiece. Davila was held to only four touchdown passes and a season-low 200 passing yards.

Spokane’s offense was led by QB Kyle Rowley, who completed 58% of his passes for 209 yards with three touchdowns. WR Huey Whittaker led the receiving corps with six receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown.

The Shock will hit the road next week as they travel to Cleveland to take on the Gladiators. In their first match-up of the season, Cleveland defeated the Shock, 72-68, for Spokane’s second loss of the year on May 1st. Spokane has not lost a game since.

The Shock return home to Spokane Tribe Field on July 23rd for a nationally televised game against the Chicago Rush that will be carried on the NFL Network.

NOTES – T.O.P: Although Arizona’s offense won the time of possession battle (25:14 to Spokane’s 23:31), Spokane had the longest drive of the game in the fourth quarter with a 10-play drive that took 9:57 and ended with a Quorey Payne touchdown. FLAG FOOTBALL: Both teams combined for 21 penalties tonight (10 for Arizona and 11 for Spokane). The only other game that Spokane has had more penalties than their opponent was in the last matchup against Arizona.
