What is the difference between and Audio CD and
an Opendisc® CD?
An Opendisc® CD is a standard Audio CD with an additional data session in which the Opendisc® software sits.
Once placed in a computer, the Opendisc® CD allows you to create a unique link with your favorite artist via an inter-active dialog (e-mail, forums, chats, ...) and have access to the private area of their web site where you will find exclusive content.
Can an Opendisc® CD be played on a standard audio system?
Yes, Opendisc® CDs are compatible with normal CD audio players.
The Opendisc® technology respects the
Blue Book specifications, a standard that was introduced in 1995 by Sony, Philips, Microsoft and Apple so that the multimedia session could be added to an audio CD.
Audio CDs that respect these specifications are often known as an Enhanced CD or a CD Extra CD. To play the audio portion of the CD, put it in your regular home or car stereo CD player. To access the multimedia portion - videos, photos, put it in your Macintosh or Windows computer.
Is Opendisc® a copy control system or anti-piracy software?
No Opendisc® is neither. You may transfer the audio data to your iPod or MP3 player for your personal use.
Do I need to pay to use the Opendisc® service?
No, Opendisc® is a free service. There is no additional cost to the consumer.
Do I need to install additional software onto my computer to use Opendisc®?
No, Opendisc® does not require additional software installation.
A small file will be stored in your user preferences so that you need not fill in the form at each visit to the artist's private web site.
