Niamh Bhreathnach represents the Blackrock Ward (Booterstown, Blackrock, Newtownpark, Seapoint & Deansgrange) on Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council. At the June 2009 AGM of the Council, Niamh was elected onto the VEC Dún Laoghaire County Education Committee. Niamh was recently elected by her peers to chair the Council's Stategic Policy Committee on Planning. She serves on the Board of the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). She has been a member of the council since 1999 and was Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in 2004. Niamh was elected to Dáil Éireann in 1992, was a member of two governments and was Minister for Education from 1993 to 1997.
