Rim Suleimanov – Director General of Gazprom dobycha Urengoy.

Production and scientific activity of R. S. Suleimanov is entirely dedicated to the development of the West Siberian oil- and gas-bearing basin located in the Tyumen North. In 1971 after graduating from the Ufa Oil Institute, Mr. Suleimanov worked as an oil and gas production operator and later as a senior engineer at the Punginsk Production Division of the Igrimgaz Gas Production Directorate. In 1973 Rim Suleimanov was transferred to the Medvezhinskoye Gas Production Directorate of the Nadymgazprom Production Association. In 1979 he was transferred to the Urengoygazdobycha production company (renamed as Gazprom dobycha Urengoy from February 1, 2008) to the post of Deputy Production Director. In 1982 Mr. Suleimanov was appointed as Chief Engineer. Since 1986 to the present day – Director General of Gazprom dobycha Urengoy.

Rim Suleimanov has a PhD degree in Technical Sciences, Active Member of the Academy of Mining Sciences. Mr. Suleimanov is the author of more than a hundred of published scientific works including five monographs and over ten registered inventions. Suleimanov’s substantial contribution into the Russian fuel and energy complex development is marked by various awards.

Company History

On December 5, 1977 the USSR Gas Industry Ministry issued an order to establish an Urengoy Production Association (Urengoygazdobycha) dealing with gas production (renamed as Gazprom dobycha Urengoy from February 1, 2008).

The first comprehensive gas treatment unit (CGTU) was put into operation on April22; and the first bcm of Urengoy gas was produced via CGTU-1 as early as in May this year. During the peak development period natural gas production from the field totaled up to 300 bcmpa. Over three decades of the Urengoy oil, gas and condensate field development the company extracted nearly 6 tcm of natural gas, over 11 mln t of oil and some 140 mln t of gas condensate.

Production activities

Among the core business activities of Gazprom dobycha Urengoy are geological exploration, production and hydrocarbon feedstock treatment.

Gazprom dobycha Urengoy is a rapidly developing company. While creating the Urengoy Energy Complex the company launched 2 oil fields, commissioned 21 comprehensive gas treatment units, 16 booster compressor stations involving 31 workshops, 4 gas refrigeration stations, laid more than a thousand km of interfield gas, oil and condensate pipelines and thousands km of roads. Gazprom dobycha Urengoy also installed a complex of gas condensate treatment units, developed a strong industrial infrastructure ensuring a reliable operation of oil and gas fields.

Environmental policy

With the purpose of protecting the environment Gazprom dobycha Urengoy has developed a set of activities involving improvement of the environmental management system, monitoring and scientific researches, development and application of new resource-saving technologies aimed at meeting environmental requirements.

Recultivation of disturbed lands using biotechnologies is carried out annually. Additionally, Gazprom dobycha Urengoy performs a wide scope of work aimed at protecting the ambient air, water basin, soils, earth’s interior, as well as reconstruction of nature conservation facilities.

The comprehensive environmental activities and environmental monitoring, currently implemented by the company help to considerably reduce technogenic pressure on the Extreme North nature and promote its recovery and conservation.

Social responsibility

Social protection of the Gazprom dobycha Urengoy’s personnel is a guarantee of the company’s prestige. The social security system takes effect from the moment of hiring and remains effective after retirement. It applies to all the company’s employees irrespective of their rank and position.

Gazprom dobycha Urengoy plays an important role in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug economy, regularly covering its tax liabilities and replenishing federal and local budgets. Within the General Agreement entered into between the YaNAO Administration and Gazprom the company provides assistance to indigenous minorities of the North.

Care for people, charity and sponsorship are an integral element of the gas production company. Between 2006 and 2007 under the aegis of the “Gazprom to Children” Program the company executed a large project “Urengoygazprom. Donating Our Warmth”, as a part of which a Pre-New Year campaign named “Urengoygazprom. Friendship is Stronger than the Cold” was held for the children in need of social protection, beneficial help, sponsorship support and merely a human sympathy. A ceremonial opening of the Gazprom dobycha Urengoy modern children’s sports complex in Anapa was an important event of 2007 for the company.

Gazprom dobycha Urengoy places a special emphasis on the cultural and sporting development of its employees. The company’s creative teams occupy top places in well-known international sporting projects including the “Fakel” Corporate Festival, the most popular among Gazprom’s subsidiaries. Gazprom dobycha Urengoy’s sportsmen show remarkable results in the municipal, regional and international competitions and spartakiada games.

Development Strategy

To maintain a steady level of annual gas and condensate extraction pursuant to Gazprom’s strategy Gazprom dobycha Urengoy has developed and implementing a strategic development program, as well as defined hydrocarbon feedstock production prospects for the period until 2015.

Commissioning and bringing to its nominal capacity the comprehensive gas treatment unit #16 of the Pestsovaya area (the Urengoy field) was a significant achievement of the last years. The company completed developing the Eastern Dome of the Severo-Urengoy field (the Cenomanian deposit). Production is being intensified from the Yen-Yakhinsk and Tab-Yakhinsk areas of the Urengoy field, including the Western Dome of the Severo-Urengoy field.

With its anomalously high fluid pressure and big depth the Achimov formations of the Urengoy field will subsequently become a prioritized development object. The work is going on related to the development of the first and the second areas of the Achimov deposits.
