Giardia lamblia (also known as Giardia intestinalis) is a one-celled microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal illness giardiasis. Both cysts and trophozoites can be found in the feces. Infection occurs by the ingestion of Giardia lamblia cysts in contaminated water, food, or by the fecal-oral route (hands or fomites).

Symptoms of infection usually occur within one to two weeks of transmission. Common indications include diarrhea, stomach pain, and bloating.
