Newsletter Week 8 Term 2 2013

Mr George Firns - Principal SMG 2008 - 2013Today we farewelled our Principal Mr George Firns with a wonderful gathering in the school hall. We wish Mr Firns all the very best on his new adventure “up the hill” to Sacred Heart in Mundaring where he will take on the role of Principal. We will certainly miss you George and please come back for a visit.Goodbye Mr Firns - we will miss you.

When we return after the holidays Mr Tony Corbett will be in the role of Acting Principal until Term 4 when the Catholic Education Office will announce Mr Firns’ successor.

The final day of Term 2 is Friday July 5 and the students and staff return for the commencement of Term 3 on Tuesday July 23.

Week 6 Term 2 13 June 2013

This fortnight we have items from both our Kindergarten classes, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 as well as our Art Department and messages from Mr Firns and Mr Mumme.

Visit to Scitech Year 3 and Year 5There are some great photos from the Year 3 and Year 5 excursion to Scitech, our Kindy classes had an incursion from PMH and there are some very cute photos showing what they discovered. Year 1 have been looking at the weather.

Mr Firns announces who will be the Acting Principal for Term 3 and Mr. Mumme has some interesting information about the Archbishops RE testing and WAMSE testing also.

We extend our congratulations to the Year 4 students who will be receiving their First Holy Communion over the next 2 weekends.

Next fortnight June 27 – which will be the final newsletter for Term 2 - there will be items from Pre Primary, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6.

Also attached to this newsletter is an article that featured in the Canning Times Community Newspaper and The Record of our Year 4 students and the visit to St Norbert College for their Science Day.

Term 2 concludes on Friday July 5 and Term 3 commences for students and staff on Tuesday July 23.

Mr George Firns - Principal SMGDear Parents and students of St Maria Goretti’s Catholic School,

I am writing to inform you that our Principal, Mr. George Firns, will be leaving St Maria Goretti’s Catholic School at the end of Term 2 this year to take up the position of Principal at Sacred Heart School Mundaring from the beginning of Term 3 2013.

At this stage no replacement for George has been announced. The Archbishop, Timothy Costelloe along with the Catholic Education Office is currently working through the selection process. As soon as a replacement has been announced it will be conveyed to you all.

On behalf of the School Board, staff and students of St Maria Goretti’s Catholic School we sincerely thank George for his years of service which have benefitted the students and families. As a dedicated principal of the school, his positive influence and focus on student’s learning will be remembered by the whole school community.

We wish George the very best in all his future endeavours.

Happy SMG scientists hard at work.Welcome to another edition of St Maria Goretti’s Newsletter.

This edition contains items from our Pre Primary, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 classes together with the usual feature from our Assistant Principal Mr. Mumme. There is an update on the results from Eagles Faction Footy, reminder about Interschool Cross Country scheduled for Friday June 7 at Good Shepherd Kelmscott - map shown and a list of the planned excursions for various classes during term 2.

Year 4 shared some great photos of their Science morning at St Norbert College, 3 Young SMG Scientists at work.Year 2 have been discovering that digging in the garden can contribute to learning about numeracy and there is a photo of the Year 6 boys with the Notre Dame Prac student Notre Dame Uni Prac student and Year 6 boysJeromie Mack prior to his departure. Don’t forget the Community Notes page that has a variety of information from the surrounding community.
