LEAD Fellow Nasir Ali Panhwar writes about the deadly Newcastle virus which is spreading fast in the peacock population of Thar and have killed number of peacocks so far. Experts say that a two-pronged strategy needs to be developed to handle this issue; as an immediate step efforts may be undertaken to contain further spread of the virus in other birds along with treatment of the affected birds, while in the second step risks and threats to the biodiversity of Thar may be addressed.
