The City Night Line or “CNL” Train is a high speed train linking Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Czech Republic and Italy. This journey is really an experience in overnight train travel. Whether you are heading for the big city or one of Europe's favourite holiday regions, City Night Line is the relaxing way to get there and save precious time as you go. Rest as you travel overnight in a sleeping, couchette or seated car – it's up to you to choose the comfort you wish. The next day belongs entirely to you and your holiday.

Onboard Services This journey is really an experience in overnight train travel. There are a variety of accommodations to choose from which suit any budget. Amenities on-board are plentiful to ensure your trip is as comfortable as possible.
Reclining Seats – an economical overnight journey
Depending on the route, the configuration of seats will be either compartments with 6 seats or reclining seats in open-plan coaches. City Night Line’s seated coach service includes:
• Washrooms and toilets in each coach
• Blankets on request
Reclining seats available on: Hamburg-Zurich, Munich-Berlin, Berlin-Zurich, Munich-Hamburg, Amsterdam-Zurich, Amsterdam-Munich, Zurich-Prague.
Compartments for up to 6 available on: Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Munich-Rome, Munich-Venetian, Berlin-Paris, Amsterdam-Prague, Basel-Copenhagen, Munich-Paris.
Couchette Car - convenient and affordable overnight journey
Couchette accommodation offers a good night’s sleep at a very reasonable fare. There is the option to book a separate cabin for several people or else occupy a berth in a multiple-occupancy cabin that means sharing with others. Ladies only and wheelchair-accessible cabins are available on many services. City Night Line’s couchette service includes:
• 6, 4 or 2 berths cabins
• Bunk style beds on each side of the cabin
• Lockable door
• Luggage storage underneath the lower berth and on top
• Pillows, blankets and sheets are included
• Washing facilities and toilets in each car
• Temperature regulation in each cabin
• 4 berth couchette: spacious accommodation
• 6 berth couchette: for large families or groups

Sleeping Car - comfortable and relaxed overnight journey
Sleeper cabin is the most comfortable way to travel with City Night Line. You can choose between single-use cabins, solo-beds in multiple-occupancy cabins (gender-specific double, triple/quad) or private cabins for two, three or four people. Two categories are available; economy and deluxe.

Available as single, double or triple on: Amsterdam-Zurich, Amsterdam-Copenhagen, Munich-Rome, Munich-Venice, Berlin-Paris, Amsterdam-Prague, Zurich-Prague, Munich-Paris, Munich-Amsterdam, Hamburg-Paris.
All sleeping car compartments have an electric socket which can be used for appliances such as a mobile phone or shaver. Comfortline sleeping cars also have a connection for a laptop. Most couchette and seated cars only have sockets for shavers in the washrooms.

Dining
A restaurant car is available on most routes .The restaurant offers a seasonal menu and well snacks or quick meal. There are 18 seats/6 tables in the restaurant and these may be booked directly with City Night Line. Tel: ++41 44 247 75 75 (Mon–Fri: 8.30am-5pm German time)
Luggage
Each passenger is entitled to carry hand luggage plus one suitcase/bag; as luggage can only be stowed in the space under the beds, couchettes or seats and the shelves in the compartment.
If the passenger’s luggage does not fit in the space available it can be stored a separate luggage car (providing the service is available on the routing travelled). The transportation of luggage may be denied due to limited space.
Security and service on board
There is dedicated security on board City Night Line services. All sleeping and couchette car compartments can be locked from the inside by the customer. On request, the train crew can lock the double-deck sleeping car when passengers leave the compartment and open it again when they return. Comfortline sleeping cars have a punched card system which allows customers to lock and open the compartment from the outside themselves.
Women-only compartment
A number of single berths can be booked in special women-only compartments located in couchette cars. The compartments in the sleeper car are automatically paired by genders.
Fares
Services can only be booked up to 90 days in advance.
Reservations are mandatory.

Passholder 1 fare: valid in conjunction with a pass covering the whole route
Passholder 2 fare: valid in conjunction with a pass covering partial route, at least one of the countries travelled through

Passholder fares:
• 7PM rule applies to FlexiPass holders. (refer below for details)
• Customers holding 2nd class passes are not permitted to purchase a 1st class Passholder fare. The class of service must match the class of service of the Rail Pass.
• 1st class pass required for Deluxe Sleepers
• Pass must to be validated prior to boarding City Night Line.
• Valid for holders of Eurail Global Pass, Eurail Select Pass including Germany, Switzerland, Austria and or Benelux depending on the routing of journey.
7PM Bonus rule:
You could travel between 7pm and midnight for FREE. If you board a direct overnight train after 7pm (1900) then you only need to write the next day’s date in the calendar box on your pass, provided it falls within the validity of the pass.
Exchange/Refund
Exchange and refund policies vary depending on the type of fare purchased.
Refunds, when authorised, can only be obtained in home country, up to 60 days after train’s departure date.
Exchange can only be performed in issuing office. To exchange a ticket client must buy a new ticket and then send the unused stamped ticket back to the issuing office for a refund.
Check-in Procedures
There are no check-in procedures before boarding City Night Line trains.
Ticket control and passport checks will occur on the train.
Passports are collected just after the passenger boards the train and returned shortly before arrival. Passengers in reclining seats keep their documents with them.
The train crew welcomes sleeping and couchette cars passengers on the platform. The crew will go through the check-in process in the compartment to provide all the necessary information about the course of the journey and the facilities and services, as well as a wake-up call time. During the check-in procedure, the crew will also collect the travel tickets, as well as passports / ID cards on international routes. This means that passengers are not disturbed during the night for ticket or passport inspections. All documents are returned to the passengers in the morning.
