Imperial German Army Colours

Some information on Streamers used. From 1835 those Units who had existed for 100 years was awardet a "Säkulär-Band" which for Prussia was in Black and White (Prussian livery colours, other states had their Colours like the Blue and White of Bavaria), it was inscribed with the text Errichtet (Raised) and the year of the raising of the unit. On the lower part was Royal monograms and on the knot which tied the streamer to the pole was the year of the raising and the year when the unit achieved 100 years for example 1789-1889.

At the turn of the Century 1800-1900 all Prussian Regiments was awarded the "Jahrhundertwende-band = Turn of the Century Streamer". This was black with two white stripes in the middle and ending in tassels. The streamer was tied with a knot and formed two bands hanging down, both having plaques in the lower part, the fist bearing the monogram of Wilhelm II below a Imperial Crown,the backside carrying the date 1 Januar 1900. The second was the like but the monogram was ensigned by a Royal Crown, the two types denotes the dual title as German Emperor and King of Prussia. The other States of the Empire followed suit and introduced Turn of the Century Streamers in their own colours and emblems.

Other streamers was awarded for War Participation, so was the eight sucessors to the regiments distingushied at the Battle of Kolberg in 1807 awarded a special streamer see 2nd Foot Guards. There was also a number of Campaign Streamers:

Campaign of 1813/1815 orange streamer with white and black along the borders.
Campaign of 1848/29 (1st Schleswig War) black streamer with white borders, could be awarded whit crossed swords.
Campaign of 1864 (2nd Schleswig War) orange-black-white streamer, could be awarded with crossed swords.
Campaign of 1866 (Prussian-Austrian War) black streamer with borders in white and orange with crossed swords.
Campaign of 1870/71 (German-French War) black streamer with a orange center stripe and white borders. On the streamer was placed metal plaques bearing inscriptions of Battles.

Certain regiments also recived a parade streamers from its Colonel-in-Chief, they where richly decorated and included the coat of arms of the Colonel-in-Chief. A list of some regiments who recived these streamers:

Ulan Regiment "Emperor Alexander II of Russia" (1st Brandenburg) No. 3 recieved a streamer from Russian Empress Maria in 1857.
King's Ulan Regiment (1st Hannoveran) No. 13 recieved a streamer from Wilhelm II in 1899 celebrating his 10 years as Col.-in-Chief.
Horse Grenadier Regiment "von Derfflinger" (Neumark) No. 3 recived from their Col.-in-Chief King Gustaf V of Sweden a streamer in 1911.
Guards Dragoon Regiment "Queen Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland" No. 1 received a streamer form the Queen in 1900.
Guards Dragoon Regiment "Empress Alexandra of Russia" No. 2 recieved a streamer from the Empress in 1914.
1st Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 17 recieved a streamer from Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia in 1881.
