| TRAINS always define the identity of a rail service. They are the main contact point between a rail operator and its customers. There will be 58 trains operating along the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, allowing a frequency of one train every 3.5 minutes during peak hours. Each train, which will be driverless, is made up of four cars, with each car capable of carrying around 300 passengers. The trains are disabled friendly and will have space allocated for wheel-chairs. With the Klang Valley MRT, the target having 50% of all journeys in the Greater Kuala Lumpur / Klang Valley region to be on public transport can be achieved. The design of the train is themed “The Guiding Light” which represents strong and solid character as well as modernity and timelessness. The design was inspired by the various beautiful architectural features of Kuala Lumpur. The trains are engineered by Siemens AG and designed by BMW Group Designworks USA. The trains will be assembled in a new plant in Rasa, Hulu Selangor. 
Designing for people AS the MRT trains will be the main contact point between a rail service and the public, a lot of attention has been given to the design of the interior. Besides aesthetic considerations, basic requirements such as comfort, practicality and user-friendliness are major factors that need to be looked at closely. The interior design is visualised as an open environment that is inviting, light and fresh, incorporating long-lasting and easy to maintain colours with seats in cool blue tones that will alternate in a three tonality rhythm. Besides ergonomics, the MRT Corp team will also determine the placing of hand rails/grabs, fittings and the materials used, as they have to be durable for heavy use and be easily maintained. | | | | |
