The case is useful in teaching IT Project Management - the case discussion helps in sensitizing participants to various issues faced in managing large IT/full lifecycle software development projects and emphasize leadership behaviours to deal with each of these challenges. The second part of the case is an exercise for the participants to work out a detailed project plan- this exercise demonstrates the common mistakes made in planning and the fact that the plans look different based on the assumptions made, the project lifecycle models used and a wide variety of other choices made by the planner.

However for large design research projects it could become unmanageable to say the least. The question arises if a software tool could be created which could support this process of mining insights.
