06:48 pm - Werelist Down
The Werelist is down and unfortunately in a way that there's nothing we can do about it. This was a tweet posted by the host:
"The network issue which is due to XOs fiber cut on their network between LA & Long Beach affects only our San Diego DC. ETA unknown"
This is actually a pretty big deal that affects a lot of companies in that area. Unfortunately that's where the Werelist is hosted. Until they can get that up and running again, there's nothing we can do about it.

08:41 pm - WL Down for Server Maintenance
Just FYI, Werelist's webserver is down for scheduled server maintenance. Unfortunately the host didn't give me enough time to send out a warning that they were doing it. It's only expected to be down for about 4hrs starting at 5pm PST.

12:01 pm - We're back on, for now.
Werelist is provisionally open again. We will have another period of downtime while migrating to another provider, but for now, feel free to use the forums again.

10:28 pm - Almost ready!
We just need to finish pruning inactive accounts and old topics (like fluff threads from a few years back), and we'll be ready to re-open the forums.
A move will still be happening; stay tuned.

05:16 pm - We're on it
We're behind the scenes and working on a fix. Chances are decent that the forums will be turned back on at least temporarily while we work on porting to somewhere new; it depends on what our tech admin says went wrong in the first place.
Please bear with us, and in the meantime, enjoy http://www.therianthropy.org and http://www.weresource.org for your community needs.

11:21 pm - In and downloading
Forums are back on, but visible to administrators only. We're in and downloading all our data. Nothing has been lost.
Admins, you can access our back-end data via the admin link at the bottom of the page.
06:36 pm - Weekend update
We're still on it, generating support tickets at Lunarpages and trying to figure out what went wrong in the server logs while preparing for a port to another server. There may be a fix in sight, but please have patience while we work on it.
Mostly, Lunarpages is being a douche and not letting us even have access enough to fix the problem or retrieve our data. They must want our $1200 pretty badly. Except they aren't getting it. We don't need any more of an ISP that yanks our site with no warning and holds it for ransom, then takes a full day or more to respond to every support and information request.

06:26 pm - In the meantime....
We will probably be down for extended maintenance and a total rebuild. Werelist users, please enjoy the fine community resources and forums at http://www.weresource.org We highly recommend this site.
If you still can not register a Weresource account after checking with terrorwolf@weresource.org, we also recommend http://forums.therianthropy.org/ for your forum needs. Weresource hosts a live chat that is usually quite well populated and enjoyable.
We will be back, and feel free to check in here, post questions, etc, and ask for updates. :)
02:47 pm - Status quo
Quite likely we are giving a big fuck-you to Lunarpages and moving our site somewhere that doesn't hold us for ransom. I phoned them and expressed willingness to pay whatever it took for a month of premium service, dedicated server, etc, just to get us back up right now. Their response was sorry, unless you commit to 100/monthforafullyearyoursitewillremaindown.Iwasnotwillingtoputup100/month for a full year your site will remain down. I was not willing to put up 100/monthforafullyearyoursitewillremaindown.Iwasnotwillingtoputup1200 to get the site back up immediately, nor to be committed to remaining with a useless ISP whose tech support blows sweaty donkey balls.
Jakkal apparently got a similar answer and hers was $30/month. Frankly I would have paid that, but given that the ISP is basically holding our site for ransom, I think it is time to give them the finger and disappear only to return bigger and better on a new server that doesn't pull this kind of monkeyshit.
We did have a significant spike in spammer accounts, none of which actually posted anything, last month. Issue was mostly solved and their IP's banned, but this may have contributed to the ISP's telling us that the server load was too great.
BTW, when I bitch at users for posting pictures over 640 X 480, avoiding this kind of circumstances is one of the reasons. This particular issue was too many connections rather than bandwidth, but similar issues.
Kahoku has been invited on board as our tech admin. Tech admin alumni, we could also use your emergency help right about now to figure out where to move, how to port the existing database, and what happened to cause the increase in mySQL load on Lunarpages.

08:09 pm - Site is down.
I've put up the generic "The site is down" html file on the main page of the WereList. The issue, according to Lunarpages, is that the site is being a resource hog. This was after the recent string of people saying they had an issue getting to the site. Lunarpages noticed that we were using up too many mysql resources and they shut the site down. In a nutshell we have "too many users". Instead of trying to help, they recommended that we upgrade to a package that costs 45/month.Ourcurrenthostingis45/month. Our current hosting is 45/month.Ourcurrenthostingis6/month. As you can imagine, this news did not make me happy.
I sent them a strongly worded reply, telling them that I need more technical advice on how to fix this issue, and their advice of 'upgrading to a dedicated server' made me feel like they were trying to extort us. Needless to say, they are the reason the site is down, and effectly being held for ransom. They are also taking about 8-12 hours to respond between help tickets. And I am, unfortunately, not in a position to call them during their work hours because of my own nonstandard work hours.
I'm afraid that with everything else going on in my life right now, I don't have time to dick around with Lunarpages. We'll do the best we can in the meantime. If anyone would like to list some alternate forums/chats/whatever, just reply and I will add them to this post.
