The study involved 424 youths between the ages of 15-24. The quantitative approach was used in the study. Multi-stage sampling technique was adopted for the study involving the purposive sampling which was used to select the two districts and then the simple random sampling method which was also used to select the communities and participants. A structured questionnaire made up of 30 items was administered to the respondents to collect data and processed using STATA 15. The results showed that majority of the respondents (over 80%) had heard about HTC and also knew where to go for HIV testing. Again, It was also revealed from the study that as little as 25% had ever taken HIV test at the time of the study with the males being in majority than ...

The study aimed at examining the effect motivation has on teacher retention in public Senior High Schools (SHS) in the Bekwai Municipality of Ghana. The study adopted the explanatory research design using a quantitative approach. The quota and simple random sampling procedures were employed to select 370 respondents. Data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0. The results revealed that prompt payment of monthly salary (mean=4.61) was the most motivating package with a positive effect on teacher retention, whereas training opportunities (mean=2.38) and allowance for car maintenance (mean=2.31) had the least effect. The study recommends among others that governments consider paying teachers monthly salaries promptly and design a more comprehensive and competitive motivation package for them.

The study adopted a case study approach because it probes four specific Colleges of Education (COE) in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Quantitative research method was employed. Cluster sampling was used in selecting 120 tutors and then stratified on the basis of gender. The study used questionnaire as the main research instrument for gathering the data from participants. Cronbach's Alpha was used to test the sample reliability, which yielded coefficient 0f 0.84. Data were analyzed using inferential statistics, with Pearson Product Moment Correlation and multiple regression models as analytical tools. Hypothesis was tested at a significant level of 0.01 and 0.05. Results revealed that lack of job satisfaction (96 %) and delay in payment of salary (88%) were the leading antecedents of psychological burnout among the tutors. Again, the findings showed that lack of commitment to work (92%) and transferring of aggression to teacher trainees were the top most effects of stress on Tutors. Results of hypothesis tested revealed no significant difference on the expression on both the causes and effects of psychological burnout among tutors on the basis of gender. Four SHS out of a t otal of eight were randomly selected to participate in this study. Four hundred and twenty students were then sampled through systematic random sampling to serve as study participants. The instruments used in this study were five sets of questionnaires. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient statistical analysis tool was used to test the five null hypotheses. The five null hypotheses were tested and rejected at an alpha level of 0.05. The major findings of this study revealed significant relationship among Guidance and Counselling awareness, study habits, attitude to school and students' academic performance. It was concluded that Guidance and counselling awareness have a positive relationship with all the variables studied. Recommendations were forwarded amongst which were that; SHS Headmasters and headmistresses should provide adequate resources for the effective running of guidance and counselling programmes in their schools. Also, the Guidance counsellor should provide the right therapeutic atmosphere during counselling sessions.

The objectives of the study were to ascertain the state of Guidance and Counselling services and to identify the types of guidance services provided in the schools. In trying to accomplish this study, descriptive survey was used as the design. Two sets of questionnaires were designed for students and school-based Counsellors respectively. Data was gathered from a sample size of 310. The purposive sampling and simple random sampling techniques were employed in selecting the respondents respectively. Descriptive statistics were used in analysing the data collected. It was found that 60% of the counsellors were untrained, while about half of the schools (53.3%) did not have counselling offices. The findings also revealed that counselling and orientation were the most guidance services operating in the schools. Recommendations included the reduction of teaching periods for school-based counsellors and provision of offices for counselling sessions.

During the study, three hundred and sixty (360) participants made up students, headteachers and teachers were sampled. The students were sampled using random simple sampling technique while the headteachers and teachers were sampled purposively. The instruments used to gather all the necessary information about the problem was questionnaire. The study revealed that Indiscipline starts with the home because they are the children's first teachers. It was also found that the effects of indiscipline on academic performance included; students' inability to concentrate in class, loss of materials taught due to absenteeism and increase in rate of school drop-out. In order to minimize indiscipline behaviours, the study recommends that; discipline in the society should begin at the home. The home and the school must therefore interact and cooperate in instilling discipline. Also, providing a hearing process for students to present their side of the story and establishing an appeal processes to increase students and parents' perception of fairness.

This research was set forth to investigate how observational techniques can be used as assessment instruments to improve pupils' performance in learning at Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality of Ghana. It further assessed the extent of Junior High School teachers' knowledge of observational techniques and identifies some of the benefits and uses of the data gathered through the application of these techniques. The basic research designs used were descriptive statistics and participant observation among 250 respondents, who were selected through simple random sampling. The findings from the study showed that, teachers in the study area preferred employing unstructured observational technique, followed by structured observational technique to collect data on students with limited emphasis on the clinical and global impression techniques. Again, only a few preferred the application of other instruments and approaches such as the use of anecdotal records, norm-referenced tests, rating scales and checklists to gather data. Based on the findings, the work concluded that unstructured observational technique was very useful to apply and does not involve the use of sophisticated equipment to record data. The study therefore recommends the use of these observational techniques and instruments to learn more about the strengths and weaknesses of the students. It was also recommended that, government should support training and appointing of personnels to undertake observational studies on regular basis to ensure effective teaching and learning.

The main objective of this study was to investigate and compare how biology practical lessons were conducted in some well-endowed and less-endowed Senior High Schools in Ghana. The main instruments used for gathering the data for the study were questionnaires, document analysis and informal observation of some biology lessons. This enabled the Researchers to capture as closely as possible, the real picture of what happened during the observed lessons. The sampled population for the study consisted of 408 students and 24 biology teachers from twelve selected Senior High Schools in the Eastern and Central Regions of Ghana. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. The research findings showed that the time allotted to practical lessons in biology varied from one school to another, as 35.8% of students from well-endowed schools complained of insufficiency of time as against 78.9% of students from less-endowed schools. The study also found that the teaching strategies employed in the two categories of Senior High Schools were not different. However, students from the selected well-endowed schools tend to have a greater advantage than their counterparts from the less-endowed schools, as they were exposed to less lecture method 7.4% compared to 27.9% from the low-endowment schools. To ensure efficiency in the teaching of the practical aspect of biology in the Senior High Schools, the study recommends that the government and all other stakeholders in education must supply laboratories in all Senior High Schools with the necessary equipment, materials and chemicals to enable students to develop the necessary skills, attitudes, and interest in science.
