Naturforsch. 55 b, 139-144 (2000); received September 13, 1999 Niobium, Titanium, Cluster, Chlorides, Synthesis New quaternary niobium cluster chlorides corresponding to the general formula ATi[Nb6Clis] (A = K, Rb, Cs, In, Tl) have been synthesized in sealed quartz tubes at 720 °C, starting from stoichiometric amounts of NbCls, niobium metal, TiCb, and AC1 (A = K, Rb, Cs), or In or Tl metals. The structures of RbTi[Nb6Clis] and CsTifNböClis] were determined using single crystal X-ray diffraction. RbTifNböClis] crystallizes in the rhombohedral crystal system, space group R3 (no. 148), Z = 3, with lattice parameters: a = 9.163(4), c = 25.014(14) A (hexagonal setting). The structure refinement converged to R] = 0.044 and wRi = 0.058 for all data. In this structure, discrete [NböClig]4cluster units are linked by Rb+ and Ti3+ cations, located in a 12coordinated anticubeoctahedral and octahedral chloride coordination environment, respectively. In contrast, CsTifNböClis] crystallizes i...

Five new isostructural two-dimensional lanthanide-based coordination polymers with the formula Ln... more Five new isostructural two-dimensional lanthanide-based coordination polymers with the formula Ln2(F4BDC)3(DEF)2(EtOH)2-2(DEF) (Ln=Tb, 1; Gd, 2; Eu, 3; La, 4; Nd, 5; F4BDC2−=2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate ligands; DEF=N,N′-diethylformamide), have been synthesized by reaction of Ln(NO3)3 and F4BDC in a DEF/EtOH solvent mixture. The compounds were characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction. In all cases, the metal ion is coordinated by nine oxygen atoms

Copper(I) oxide (Cu 2 O) was electrochemically deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass ... more Copper(I) oxide (Cu 2 O) was electrochemically deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass electrode and covered with a thin layer of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS). The electrode was studied in the photoelectrocatalytic reduction of CO 2. Methanol was obtained as the major product with a concentration of 460 μmol L −1 with a photoconversion yield of 12% after 60 min of reaction under the conditions of UV-Vis (125 W Hg high pressure lamp) and application of 0.0 V vs Ag/AgCl in 3.0 mol L −1 KCl in buffer sodium carbonate/sodium bicarbonate 0.1 mol L −1 saturated with CO 2 gas. The PEDOT:PSS has led to a significant improvement in CO 2 conversion due to rapid transfer of photogenerated holes. Consequently, the thin layer of PEDOT:PSS also reduces the photooxidation of Cu 2 O to CuO. The Cu 2 O/PEDOT:PSS photocatalytic system was found to have excellent photostability. Similar yield of alcohol was observed after reusing the catalyst six times.

The crystal structure of 1 was determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 crystallizes in the tetragonal system, space group I4 1 /a (No. 88), a = 30.585(4), c = 27.348(6) Å , V = 25582(7) Å 3 , Z = 16. Its 1D framework consists of chains formed of metal clusters and Mn(L) complexes linked to each other by Nb-C:N-Mn-N:C-Nb linkages. The chains extend along the a and b crystallographic axes and are related to each other by 4 1 screw axis. The chains are held together by [Me 4 N] ? cations and solvent molecules located in channels running between the chains. 1 and the previously reported 1D coordination polymer [Me 4 N] 3 {[Mn(5-MeOsalen)][Nb 6 Cl 12 (CN) 6 ]} (3) differ from each other in terms of their synthesis and their structural characteristics.
