People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience significant disparities ... more People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) experience significant disparities in access to and quality of healthcare. Healthcare workers often lack experience with people with IDD and demonstrate attitudinal bias in clinical encounters. This project builds upon an existing interventional disability competency training for future healthcare workers by expanding the test pool to include graduate social work students. The analysis completed seems to indicate that informal classroom discussions on IDD considerations in social work practice may result in similar disability acculturation levels as direct practice with people with IDD.

The START program model was implemented to provide community-based crisis intervention for individuals with IDD and mental health needs. The model is evidence-informed and utilizes a national database. It is a person-centered, solutions-focused approach that employs cognitive behavioral psychology and other evidence-based practices. START is a comprehensive model of service supports that optimizes independence, treatment, and community living for individuals with IDD and behavioral health needs. This evaluation proposes further understand of how the program interventions affect the IDD community compared to long-standing traditional mental health interventions like ABA.

This memo explores the application of an international human rights framework to arrive at the conclusion that those with IDDs have a human rights claim against the use of subminimum wage work.
