African garment industry - freedom from trade barriers (original) (raw)

Support people's livelihoods in Africa - maintain a current provision in U.S. law allowing certain garments produced in African factories to enter the U.S. duty-free (from the ONE campaign).

This is great, it's jobs and industry, so it's long-term rather than short-term, and provides dignified employment for people that will last once these countries get out of the news. And it's not a handout either, we're just simply treating these countries fairly and not imposing artificial obstacles against their competing on the market.
