Bullying continues to blight the lives of many people and is most often associated with school and the workplace. Between school and workplace lies higher education, but university is a setting that has received scant attention from the bullying research community. The university context offers a unique perspective to compulsory educational and workplace environments. This doctoral study examines undergraduate students’ knowledge of bullying through a life-course perspective. The discussion examines how undergraduate students construct bullying in the contexts of compulsory education, workplace and university looking at the different discourses used when the same people discuss bullying in different settings; engaging with themes of structural, environmental and operational characteristics and their relationship to levels and types of bullying.
