Yesterday, PES Women President attended the PES Presidency and Pre-Council meetings with PES leaders in Brussels. One thing is confirmed: the next PES Congress -including our Annual conference- will take place on 16-18 October in Amsterdam. On this International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in conflict, PES Women stands in solidarity with the victims and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence around the world.We honour their strength, mourn those who lost their lives, and pay tribute to the courageous individuals and activists who continue to fight for justice and dignity.Sexual violence is not a side effect of war – it is a deliberate weapon.It is a war crime, a crime against humanity, and a driver of long-term trauma and instability.Women’s bodies are not battlegrounds.Yet, in today’s conflicts, women and girls continue to be targeted with rape and sexual assault, acts used to terrorise, humiliate, and destroy communities.Despite this devastating reality, the voices of women and girls are still too often excluded from peace and security processes and from shaping the humanitarian response.
