I just wanted to let you all know that the Dakota Dachshund Rescue puppymill dog, Rhett, was found in Sioux Falls a week ago. Thanks for allowing me to post the Lost flyer even though many of you aren't from the SD area. Everyone is so relieved Rhett was found and is now safe at his foster's home. Speaking of foster dogs: I currently foster Luke Skywalker for DDR and just found out someone has applied to adopt him! I have had the honor of fostering Luke in my home for the past 6 months and am happy to say that the scared, skinny puppymill boy has blossomed into a happy, playful, loving dog! I am very sad that he will be leaving me soon, but I'm excited for him to continue on his journey here on Earth in his forever home! She's 2.5 years old, and I've posted a picture of her behind the cut below for anyone who's interested. She's stubborn, strong-willed, smart, mischievous, and a great guide dg as far as I'm concerned. She's still got quite a bit of puppy in her despite her age, although for all I know it could be normal.I joined this community because I'm interested in learning about other types of working dogs as well as learning any tips for caring for a working dog. I have been back to writing and I started writing little breed profiles! Dogs are my passion and it's been fun getting back to this! I have no plans on publishing but thought instead it would be fun for family and friends. So what I was hoping for is... I am going to post up to 5 breeds of dogs that I am writing about, what I would like is pictures of that breed and maybe a little insight of the breed with your experiences, facts, fun things about them. I want to print pictures of your dogs for my profiles (not an online thing) it will be printed on paper, laminated and put into a binder for people to view. If you post a picture please give me permission to use them and your name, (last name is not needed) pets name, and a state, country would be nice. Nothing to personal! Remember this is just something fun for me to put together and show family and friends. Maybe it will help educate people too ( I would like a couple pictures of mix breeds too as I will add a sheet of pictures of mixes.) But mainly pics of purebreds. Monday, January 28th, 2008 10:48 am - schutzhund puppy? bardbabe About a week ago, I brought home a GSD puppy. She is from german working lines. Her sire is VA Gusto vom Mittelwest SchH3. I am considering training her in schutzhund. Is there anything I should or should not be doing in this early puppy phase? Even if you are just curious about it, and would like to learn more. discdogs (comment on this) Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 7:52 am - Puppy Health Questions bardbabe I just brought home my GSD puppy, Brynja, on Saturday. She is my fourth GSD, and I got all of them as puppies. I took her to the vet on Monday, and yesterday morning I found out that she does not have worms "yay," but she does have giardia and coccidia. I have never had to deal with either of those. I know it is not uncommon for puppies to have one or both of those, but it is new to me. Have any of you had a puppy with giardia, coccidia or both? If so, any tips on how to deal with keeping your other dogs from getting them and your kids or other human family members from getting the giardia?We started her on antibiotics for the coccidia, and yesterday she got her first of five doses of Panacur for the giardia. She has a lot of energy and seems to be dealing with all of it just fine. Monday, December 24th, 2007 11:32 pm - She's gone... amarook Hello all, not to be a bummer on Christmas eve, but I wanted to let everyone here know about my fluffy girl. We had to let her go on Saturday. The tumor in her thoat was making her very uncomfortable. I don't think she was resting well. She always looked tired, and she was very restless. We're pretty sure it was slowly strangling her. Her breathing was really rough, and she was panting often. She surprised everyone though. She was diagnosed back in May, and usually dogs with that cancer don't last longer than a couple months after diagnosis. I think her will was so strong that she would've kept on going till she wasted away, and couldn't breathe any more.A word of warning, if your dog's bark starts to sound hoarse, get it checked out! If we had, we might have caught it early enough to do something. She was over 13 years old. She was a great dog. One of the best. I was lucky, I had a job she got to come to work with me for 4 years. She was still catching frisbees this time last year, & this picture is from this past summer. She looked so good.
