Dr. Elizabeth A. Petrino is Professor of English at Fairfield University, where she has taught since 2000. After chairing the Department of English for five years, she currently serves as an Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Petrino received her B.A. in English and American Literature from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and her M.A. and Ph.D. in nineteenth-century American literature from Cornell University. After teaching at Wake Forest University and Louisiana Tech University, she joined the faculty at Fairfield University as an assistant professor in 2000. She was promoted to Associate Professor in the English Department in 2005, and became a Professor of English in 2017. She is the author of Emily Dickinson and Her Contemporaries: American Women’s Verse, 1820-1885 (1998), and she has published on Emily Dickinson and women writers for a number of scholarly journals and presses, including most recently A History of American Women’s Poetry (Cambridge UP, 2016) and The Blackwell Companion to American Literature, 1820-1914 (2016). Her most recent collection of essays on feminist pedagogy, Jesuit and Feminist Education: Intersections in Teaching & Learning for the Twenty-First Century (Fordham UP, 2012), co-edited with Dr. Jocelyn Boryczka, Department of Politics, won the Alpha Sigma Nu Award for "Professional Studies" in 2013.
