WoW Roleplaying (original) (raw)
Hi everyone! (Anyone? Haha.)
I just recently started playing WoW but I've been fandom RPing for a very long time. So far I've been really enjoying playing on Normal servers with the friend who finally convinced me to let him refer me, but he thinks that as much as I emote, project, and identify with the characters that I would enjoy playing on an RP server. He and I already have two kind of RPing characters, but they're sort of a joke-fandom thing that imitate YuGiOh Abridged characters and they're on a normal server, so that's neither here nor there. He doesn't seem particularly interested in RPing but I'm trying to make the most of my winter break from college and to really check stuff out before I make major decisions about how much time and money I want to invest in WoW (ie, whether I want to buy Cata, etc.).
All that said, I've been looking around to see what might be a friendly RP server, because since I'm a bit of a scifi fanatic, I find myself a little fascinated with the Draenei. I have friends who are very devoted to both the Horde and the Alliance, though my Horde friends tend to be a bit more friendly to the idea of playing characters on both. Most of my characters so far are Horde on Dalaran, but I have characters on a few servers and a single Level 8 NE Druid that I started this evening, and I really want to make a Draenei, but I am considering putting her on an RP server.
Basically, I'm just making this known in case anyone who actually pays much attention to this comm happens to notice while I'm interested in doing it, and also just throwing it out there that I like to play magic user on either Horde or Alliance and am just trying to learn my way around, but think I've learned enough to not be a complete liability, so any friendly RP advice would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone know of a good RP server to start on? There are a few Low Pop. but that concerns me that it might be exclusivist since none of them were the New User servers for Cata, and I prefer High Pop on Normal.
So i have been playing WoW for several years off and on, but i have never played on a RP server. I am curious as to how much RP is actually done on a RP server and how it all works.
I have read several articles and even talked to a few folks and i from what i can gather, there doesn't seem to be much RPing going on? Granted i am not on these servers thus my reason for asking.
I have been very curious and even thinking about starting a character on a RP server if i could find a good guild that does RP.
Thoughts?
Hi, my name is Caroline and I'm an undergraduate working on a summer research project concerning the localization of MMOs. I have a few questions I'd love for any role-players or players of localized versions of the game to answer. Most of the questions focus on role-playing, but the crux of my project concerns cultural variations in localized versions of the game and how international players respond to that (both in terms of RP and non RP). I thought about posting a survey, but I'd prefer answers in your own words, as well as any anecdotes or anything you care to share.
- D oes your cultural background have an influence on your role-playing? By cultural background, I mean family background, ethnic background, traditional culture (religion), or popular culture. I believe that role-players make a conscious decision about what aspects of their culture they choose to draw influence from. Please elaborate on any aspects of your culture that you have made a conscious decision to draw influence from.
- If you do not feel that your cultural background influences your role-playing, please explain where you draw inspiration from.
- Have you ever employed any traditional myths (myths, stories, legends, traditions, etc.) in your role-playing that are derived from your cultural background? Please give an example if applicable.
- Or do you choose to stick to Blizzard's lore? (I recognize that WoW's lore alludes to many cultural references, but I believe that if Blizzard chooses the myth to be a part of Azeroth, then for the purposes of role-playing you ignore that reference and stick completely to what is given to you in game.)
- What version of the game are you playing? (US, EU, China, etc.) I realize that most of the people posting here will probably play the US version, but you never know.
- Have you ever played a localized version of the game?
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. I xposted this in a WoW community, so I apologize if you see it twice.
Hi everybody,
I've been playing World of Warcraft for just over 6 months now and I still have not found a charactor to take to the lvl cap.
So I'm going try something different I'm going to get into role playing but I'm not sure of any good servers or guilds to go on and didn't really want to start alone.
I play mostly Alliance but will be Horde if someone wants. I will not play an orc.
So is there anyone out there who wants to start with me or tell me where to start.
Hello all!
This is my first time putting out an ad like this before, but a
blue balling
friend of mine got me way into rping on WoW, which is a big change up for me from Para, and then decided to go and get himself a boyfriend.
I'm really looking for a partner and or guild for roleplaying on any server, though I am currently on Moon Guard. I'm a person who has no qualms starting a fresh at level one and working together with someone. Alliance or Horde, I'm not picky- I lean more towards Horde, but as long as its not something that stands below 4 feet I'm alright.
Just looking for something and someone new, and ready for ideas and fun!
I hope this is the right place for it, and if not, I'm sorry. But is wow RP suppose to be a reflection of ourselves In Real Life in the form of an orc, a night elf, a blood elf, etc. Or can our characters be different and unique and separate from who we are as a person/player?

The Cast of Wyrmrest Accord
The Cast is a list of intrepid roleplayers on WrA willing to participate in one of my one-off quests( An _Epic_sode), either as the main character or apart of the supporting cast.
But there is a catch.
As apart of The Cast you don't know when it will happen..until it happens!
Let me splain using my alt Mannaz as an example. He puts his name on The Cast ( joining hundreds of others, of course) *snicker-snort* and then he just goes about his regular WoW life until one day (maybe the next day or maybe 2 months later) something happens that hurls him into an adventure. That something will be me! If not me personally, then at least something arranged by me.
By adding your name to The Cast you are stating that you are willing to participate in an Epicsode at some random time, either as a good guy or bad guy - my choice, you won't know until then.
Of course I won't be able to grant you experience but I sure can give you monetary rewards or rewards in the form of GHI items. There is no bartering on quest rewards.
Oh yeah, Gryphonheart Items is a requisite to join.
You may also be called upon to participate in some manner in someone else's quest.
Your quest may involve someone else on the list
...or someone who is not on the list!
Backstories are mandatory!
Any level may join as I tailor the quest to your toon.
Players new to RP are always welcome!
Alliance and Horde are welcome!
Interested? Great! If you have any questions post them here.
In game send me an email with a link to your detailed backstory. Do not email me your backstory.
Remember to download the Gryphonheart Items add-on. It doesn't need to be active all the time but it is needed for when you are chosen.
Signing The Cast says that you are open and agree to all of this.
I am a supporter of Full Immersion Role Play (FIRP) in WoW and strive to provide my fellow gamers with a quality roleplay experience!
Constructive Questions and Comments welcomed!
Just Roleplay."

In a random search, I came across this community and hopefully someone here can help me!
What are some good servers to join, for RP? And guilds or people to talk to on those servers? Anyone? Please? I've tried out Farstriders, but I haven't had many good experiences there. I am good with either Horde-side or Alliance-side, I'd just like to find a group to RP with (I haven't done any RP'ing in a while and I miss it).
On a random sidenote, I haven't actually done any RPing on WoW itself (mostly tabletop, LJ, and forums) so people who are friendly, or at least not elitist, would be nice.
I thought I'd let everyone know that Kirina has started her own website and is giving her spin on wow fashion. Cool site, tell me what you think.
Hi All! I'm new to this community. A friend referred me here after I told him about my frustration trying to find a Rp guild. I'm experienced player with 2 lvl 70's and I've played every class till atleast lvl 30 on Silver Hand. I'm in the U.S. eastern/central time zone and I don't mind transferring or starting over on a new server.
What I'm looking for...
I'm NOT looking for heavy raiding. I am more than willing to help others in instances, quest, etc. but multiple weekly raids is just not what I want.
I prefer Alliance, but if a hoarde guild has a good story and players I might be interested. I have played hoarde into the 40's twice on Kirin Tor, so I do have some experience on that side.
I am willing to...
use Rp plugins
write a Rp blog or on Rp forums
do frequent in-game Rp
help with quests and instances
Please feel free to drop me a message if I sound like I might be a good fit for your guild :)
Over the past few months there have been a few new events that now take place weekly on our server and more details can be found on our Sisters of Elune RP Community on livejournal located @ http://community.livejournal.com/soerp/ .
1. The Al Diel Shala Thursday night events have been switched to Sunday evenings (sorry, had to change based on new work schedules).
This Sunday Al Diel Shala will be hosting a “Pirate Storytelling” night. A treasure chest filled with items will be brought to shore and those dressed as a pirate gets to receive one to tell a story about it. If they are a good speaker, they get to keep it!!!. More info on event
2. Keepers of the Origins host an open themed storytelling night every Wednesday at 7:30 server time. More info
3. Al Diel Shala is looking to work with various guilds on the server to get a battle bot competitiongoing.
We will be hosting an open RP event on the server to battle the newest vanity pet to be made available, the Battle Bot.
Once you complete the process to get the pet, one of them is mailed (through the game mail) to each of your characters. Also, rumor has it, if you make a new character it’s also mailed to the new character (as long as its done in the event time). So if anyone wants to join us for this RP event its quite possible for you to do so!! Not sure how to get the pet? More info here..
In a whole new breed of net roots activism, gaymers and straight allies who play Warcraft will have their 5th Annual Proudmoore Pride Parade at noon server time on Saturday June 20, 2009!
Proudmoore Pride Parade on WOW
Greetings,
This is my first post on these boards and I'm hoping someone can help me. I've been playing WoW for a few years now and have become a little jaded with the dailies and the raiding and was looking for something to put the fun back into the game. I thought I'd try seeing the game from the Alliance perspective for the first time and thought I'd try something totally new to me and go to an RP server as before I've only ever played on a PvP server.
I've found myself missing friendly and witty green chat on my screen and was hoping to find a small friendly casual guild for a small friendly casual dwarf.
My characters called Jongie - currently level 16 - and may hit the dizzy heights of level 17 tonight.
Thanks for your time.
Heyas… this little thread is here to exchange some ideas for gathering around and having a little fun during the Noble Garden holiday week currently taking place in wow.
I have no idea if it’s the same on every RP server… where people are camping the spawn points and snarling, growling, and shooing others away… As a LOT of that was happening on Sisters of Elune, horde side. But even among the not so nice curse words freely being exchanged there…. I can count quite a few friendly moments of meeting new rp’ers which was a blast. I mean come on; the event gave what many rp’ers wanted… players moving outside cybermoon city to interact with others!
Plus this event has given us quite a few new toys to have fun with others. So why not use them to the full advantage and play some games and come up with some ways to get some fun, light hearted rp going and maybe meet even a few more people along the way?
Curious for a few ideas as to what you can do? How about a Rabbit Hopping Contest (suggested “rules” and locations inside comment area), Rabbit Racing, Private Egg Hunts & egg coloring contests, and so on… have an idea to make it better? Share it.
Have another idea entirely? Share it… in other words; why not share what you have been doing on your own server with the Noble Garden vanity toys?
I'm glad I found this place. I come to you wonderful people on bended knee for advice. I wanted to start playing WoW again on an rp server. I'm gonna tell you now that the only experience I have as far as being on an rp server is playing on one for a week, not being able to make any gold to support my toon and that some weirdo started getting all creepy with my draenei hunter by saying they were destined to be together or some odd shit like that.
I previously stopped playing WoW because I was playing by myself and the guild I was in said it was a guild that helped lower level players get fast levels, but that never happened. Mind you this was on a normal server. To make a long story short, I deleted my toon and stopped playing for a while.
Now I want a fresh start. I was wondering on which server I should get on to get into a worthwhile guild, have some fun without getting a headache by stupid people and their speshul toons? I know that there are these people on every server, but I just want to get my first real rp experience.
Hello! This may or may not be a strange request but... here it goes.
I'm kind of shy when it comes to starting something new. I'm not new to WoW or RP... but I'm new to the combination of the two. I've never RP'ed in a MMO before. I've started out with one liners to paragraphs in yahoo chat and moved on to forums. Now I'm in a few one on one games with friends.
I understand the idea of WoW RP but I guess I'm... finding it hard to get started. I end up lurking a lot and have yet to actually TRY. I know in learning to do something you sometimes have to just step up and do it. But here I am trying to get my foot in the door. ^^;
I'm kind of looking for someone who might want to take me on as an RP buddy. Someone I can talk to OOC for a while, maybe dream up characters we can play together or plots that my character can interact with one of your already made characters.
I have characters on Wrymrest Accord alliance side that I made with the intention of RPing with, but I wouldn't mind starting over on a different server/faction if anyone is interested.
Let me know. :]
Every Thursday a small group of us do little contests, explorations, and what have you at places outside of the major cities on the Sisters of Elune server. Tonight (April 9th), the gathering will take place at the Darkmoon Fair (outside of Thunderbluff) and people are welcomed to participate or taste the foods being prepared during the cook off, enjoy a dance or two, ride the cannon, and pick up a new friend a jubbling (ale will be distributed for people to get one).
Anyone is welcomed to come (if you want to roll an alt on the server, your more than welcomed to) as we will have a mage that can portal you on over to Thunderbluff. If interested, feel free to hit me up on Faeti. The “IC” flyer will be posted in a follow up reply.
Any comments/suggestions/ideas for improvement on rp events are more than welcomed. I am new at it (even if this is like our 6th event).
Bit of a rant, but an attempt to break the ice. :)
In short: Looking for help on breaking away from PVP and how to find a group of RPers who aren't elitest jerks.
Sorry if was unnecessarily lengthy. :\
I don’t know if there is a thread like this already somewhere but I did look and didn’t find any. I have role-played in other mediums before (like table top; play-by-post) etc, but the whole “virtual world” is really new. I admit it. Even if I have done little rp’s for over the past year in wow with other people we’ve really done it based how we’d do it in a standard table-top/play by post run by a storyteller.
Over the past week some drama has been on going over issues of “god moding” / auto attacking etc and mixing ic and ooc. I’ve checked with some “rp guides to wow” and most of them seem to parallel what I’m use to in other rpg systems. So this is what I’ve come up with (I added it in the comments to avoid an overly large post here) as to some common guidelines people should follow when rp’ing…
Did I miss anything? Cause I’m clueless as to why an ongoing issue is still an issue days later (I mean I was doing a naxx raid yesterday trying to heal boss fights while receiving whispers from the chick in question, her “friends”, and so on, on top of getting yelled at in the “ooc rp channel”.). That behavior being depicted by them is beyond annoying and is distracting from the “fun” factor of the game. I’ll explain the rp that started it and the related actions that happened after, in a follow up comments post. I would like to know if I’m in the wrong and/or ways to avoid such melodramatic drama in the future.
