HMS Victory Found From the Los Angeles Times:

Image from the Los Angeles Times
American salvagers say they have discovered the long-sought wreck of HMS Victory, the mightiest and most technologically advanced warship of its time, which sank during a violent storm in the English Channel in 1744.

Armed with as many as 110 massive bronze cannons and carrying a crew of 900 men and 100 supernumeraries, the Victory was lost with all hands and reportedly with a treasure of gold bullion whose value is estimated at $1 billion.

In a news conference Monday in London, Greg Stemm, chief executive of Odyssey Marine Exploration in Tampa, Fla., said the company found the remains in 330 feet of water more than 60 miles from where the vessel was thought to have sunk -- exonerating the captain, Sir John Balchin, from the widespread accusation that he had let it run aground through faulty navigation.

i need to add to my last post. i'd like, eventually, to start a shipwreck and artifact museum, as well as a monthly newsletter/newspaper called "The Docksider".

shipwreck research
i'm thinking about starting a shipwreck research group. is there anyone here who might have an interest in something like this? i have a name i want to use. just not sure how to go about getting it started. i've thought about the initial consult would be free, any research after that would be 30-40 dollars an hour. physical location of a wreck would be significantly more. suggestions, thoughts, ideas? anyone?

Hurricane Ike Uncovers Shipwreck I'm not having much luck finding images to post directly, but there's a CNN article (complete with
iReporter video footage) of the wreck which has recently been uncovered in Alabama by wave action from Hurricane Ike. Authorities believe it is either the 1862 wreck of a Civil War warship called the Monticello, or the 1933 wreck of the schooner Rachel.

hi all, i'm new to this community. i research shipwrecks as a hobby. i have one wreck that i've been researching for about 5 years now, and with the help of some friends, am getting closer to physically identifying the wreck i've been looking at. the wreck i've been looking at, was called the Charles H Morse. it collided with the S.S. Oregon the morning of March 14th, 1886, about 22 miles off the Fire Island Inlet. there is a wreck that lays adjacent to where the Oregon is, but that might not be the wreck we're looking for, but it's hard to tell, because the ship's bell had no identifying marks on it, as to what the name of the ship was. so, we keep digging

8th century ship found in Mediterranean

A ship from the 8th century discovered off Dor Beach in the Mediterranean is thought to be the only vessel from that era ever found in the region.

The wreck was found almost a decade ago but only today were details released after a prolonged series of excavations. Using carbon dating techniques, the wreck was dated to the early 8th century, some 1,300 years ago.

The ship is about 16 feet wide and 50 feet long. It was found in a shallow lagoon.

Book for those interested I've added another book to my shipwreck book collection. It's by Cris Kohl (most of the good ones I have are by him), called Shipwrecks Tales of the Great Lakes. Its a pretty good read. I've finished the first story, about the Griffon, and I'm glad I got the book.

One obscure clue leads divers to Gallipoli shipwreck

MELBOURNE, Australia (5 June 2005) -- It is a Saturday in late
April, on a boat in Bass Strait. Four middle-aged men are high-fiving
each other like teenagers. They can scarcely believe their luck. "If we
had beer on board," said one of them later, "we would have been
cracking it."
