JEFFERSON COUNTY: Ferguson gains 96th district seat; Maple re-elected (original) (raw)

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — Election Results

Republican Ron Ferguson claimed the 96th District Ohio House seat Tuesday night, defeating Democratic challenger Richard Olivito and Oscar Herrera.

Ferguson earned a big win against challengers Richard Olivito and Oscar Herrera.

For the first time in a decade, Jack Cera will not represent the district.

"Obviously, I feel good," Ferguson said. "You get in, it's a win. I've told people all along we have too many politicians worried about getting re-elected than doing the job they were elected to do.

"Now, I get the opportunity to do exactly that, the job I was elected to do."

Republican Dave Maple earned another 4-year term on the Jefferson County Commission, staving off a challenge from Democrat Bob Smith. Maple won by 34 points.

Also on the commission board, with the decision by longtime commissioner Tom Gentile not to seek re-election, four candidates stepped into the race.

Republican Tony Morelli edged out Democrat Ed Littlejohn. Non-party candidates Dan Cernak and Patrick Murphy were back in the vote count.

"I'm looking foward to doing some of the things I've been talking about," Morelli said. "I'd like to expand the internet throughout our county. I'd like to do some things to see if we can't get some businesses in here.

Also in Jefferson County, levies in Indian Creek School District, Adena, Amsterdam and Wells Township all passed.
