This method is a new tool to experimentally estimate the effect of a solvent on the sensitivity of fluorophores to the polarity of the medium. A fragment approach was used to make a chemoinformation analysis of a library of BODIPY compounds, which has been collected from the literature data and encompasses a wide range of solvatochromic effects from negative to positive. The most significant fragments of molecules, which are responsible for the sensitivity of the compounds to the polarity of the medium, were determined. It was found that the positive and negative solvatochromic effects are enhanced with increasing molecular polarizability of the compounds, which agrees with the parameters of the determined fragments of BODIPYs as chains of conjugated unsaturated bonds. By and large, the semiempirical method to determine the polarity of fluorophores and the results of the chemoinformation analysis gave an extended insight into the effect of solvents on the spectral behavior of fluorescent dyes and on the design of new compounds.

In total, 115 individual compounds in 71 solvents are represented by 1698 arrays of the spectral and photophysical properties of the fluorophore. Each dye for a series of solvents is characterized by a calculated value of solvatochromic sensitivity according to a semiempirical approach applied to a series of solvents. The whole dataset is classified into 6 and 24 clusters of solvatochromic sensitivity, from high negative to high positive solvatochromism. The results of the analysis are visualized by the polarity mapping plots depicting, in terms of wavenumbers, the absorption versus emission, stokes shift versus − (absorption maxima + emission maxima), and quantum yield versus stokes shift. An analysis of the clusters combining several dyes in an individual series of solvents shows that dyes of a high solvatochromic sensitivity demonstrate regular behaviour of the correspondi...

An analysis of the developed regression models depicted the contribution of ten substructural molecular fragments for each indicator of the colour fastness properties of acid and direct azo dyes on textile materials. The similarity of several individual multi-atomic fragments for acid and direct azo dyes was found for wool, polyamide, and cotton fibres, which indicates the coinciding mechanisms of the physicochemical processes that accompany the destruction of dyes while testing the ligh...

The solution to each practical problem imposes its own limitations in the design of new structures with practically useful properties. The relationship between the structure and spectral properties is still to be unveiled. Three aza-BODIPY complexes with substituents of different natures were studied using time-resolved and steady-state fluorescence and absorption spectroscopy. The solvatochromic properties of aza-BODIPYs were studied with the use of a combined polyparametric approach and analysis by chemoinformatics methods for the first time. It was found that red shift of aza-BODIPY dyes was due to the increase of their structural lability. Predictive and experimental methods showed that the investigated aza-BODIPYs exhibited a positive solvatochromic effect, in contrast to classic BODIPYs (bearing C in the meso-position of the dipyrrome...

The ability to absorb and emit in the long-wavelength region increases the efficiency of recording the spectral signals of the probes due to the higher permeability of the skin layers. Compared to other fluorescent dyes, BODIPYs are attractive due to their excellent photophysical properties–narrow absorption and emission, intense fluorescence, simple signal modulation for the practical applications. As part of conjugates with biomolecules, BODIPY could act as a biomarker, but as therapeutic agent, which allows solving several problems at once-labeling or bioimaging and treatment based on the suppression of pathogenic microflora and cancer cells, which provides a huge potential for practical application of BODIPY conjugates in medicine. The review is devoted to the discussion of the recent, promising direc...

The purpose of the research is to obtain ecologically colored fabrics for textiles by using a method of dyeing that relies on natural ingredients extracted from onion's outer shell by using water and organic solvents. For the assessment of dyeing quality, dyed samples were conducted with several tests like wash fastness, rubbing fastness, light fastness and K/S value. Comparison also done among water extracted dyed samples and organic solvent (Methanol) extracted dyed samples and all the results came up with good results.

Every types of natural dyestuff can be used for silk dyeing. Acid dyestuff used for silk dyeing and required more than boiling temperature, resulting fibre damage and more energy. In this research, coloured silk fabric with natural onion dye for textiles by using a method of dyeing that relies on natural ingredients extracted from onion’s outer shell colorant (Quercetin) by using water and organic solvents. And also used three types of mordants such as Alum, Copper Sulphate, and Potassium dichromate. The results of the research indicated that using onion’s outer shell, deeper and more stable shades of the colours were obtained in comparison with water and organic solvent extracts dyed silk fabric. All samples were better results obtained such as light fastness, rubbing, water, acid and alkaline perspiration, changes appear in a smaller extent.

Inhibition of destruction of some mordant dyes was observed. A simple theory for describing this phenomenon was proposed, which is based on consideration of participation of iron ions in complex formation with mordant dye ligands. By the use of chemical software JChem (ChemAxon) it was found that mordant dye exhibiting stability in Fenton solution bears hydroxyl group with high dissociation constant, pK=2,57. On the contrary, another dye bearing hydroxyl with low dissociation constant, pK1=6,65, does not exhibit any inhibition in oxidation process. UV-Vis spectral studies of the complexes of several mordant dyes prove correlations with their stability in Fenton reaction, however some dyes exhibit no relationship of this kind.
