A National Weather Service advisory for Tuesday’s storm in Maryland has been upgraded to a winter storm warning.

A dry morning on Tuesday, will give way to a snowy night. A winter storm watch takes effect Tuesday and lasts into Wednesday for more snow in Maryland.

ADVISORIES: The National Weather Service has issued the winter storm warning to take effect Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning for the potential of heavy snow. As of Monday afternoon, the advisory was issued for Anne Arundel and Howard counties in the Baltimore metro, as well as the D.C. suburbs, Southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore.

The rest of Central Maryland along the Pennsylvania line and Western Maryland are under a winter weather advisory during the same timeframe.

TIMELINE: WBAL-TV 11 Meteorologist Tony Pann said computer models show light snow starting by mid-afternoon Tuesday in the Baltimore metro.

WBAL-TV 11 Chief Meteorologist Tom Tasselmyer said more substantial snow will fall after sunset, particularly to the south of Baltimore, continue overnight and last into Wednesday morning.

The snow will begin taper off Wednesday morning but a wintry mix will redevelop Wednesday afternoon before becoming rain by the evening.

HOW MUCH? About 2-3 inches in and around and north of Baltimore and 3-5 inches south of Baltimore, with locally higher amounts possible. Also, some ice accumulation is possible by Wednesday morning.

SCHOOLS: Baltimore County is among a list of school districts closing early Tuesday afternoon. In Anne Arundel County, students will go to virtual learning Tuesday. Baltimore City canceled after-school activities. Get the full school closings list here.
