May 2026 | Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (original) (raw)

While the opportunity to convene, converse and cavort in person at AAEA’s Annual Meetings are often a highlight of the year (Kansas City here we come!), we must recognize that the in-person meetings don’ t work for everyone. The AAEA Board and the AAEA Access Taskforce have focused intently on exploring and improving the timing, cost, and format of in-person meetings to meet membership priorities (see the taskforce report at https://www.aaea.org/UserFiles/file/AAEAAccessTaskforceFinalReportJuly2025.pdf).

However, sometimes the meetings occur on inconvenient dates, or funding doesn’t materialize to permit travel, or the format simply doesn’t meet the needs of a particular would-be participant. In addition, AAEA members located outside the United States face increasing financial, logistical, and bureaucratic hurdles to attend state-side gatherings. Such obstacles are real, but should not constitute a foundational risk to AAEA members being able to meaningfully leverage the Association for networking and professional development opportunities.
