In the 2011 Census, there were 33,997 people in Dubbo of these 47.8% were male and 52.2% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 14.0% of the population.

The median age of people in Dubbo was 35 years. Children aged 0 - 14 years made up 22.6% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 14.2% of the population.
