However, recent studies have revealed that researchers commonly use general internet resources and free scholarly journals more than the subscribed high quality e-journals. This research study aims to investigate the faculty members' use patterns of e-journals, underutilization of HEC subscribed e-journals, reasons of non-use and their preferences for e-journals. The University of the Punjabthe largest and oldest university of Pakistanwill be taken as a sample to study use patterns of e-journals by academic staff. The design of the study will be mixed method based on Sequential QUAN → qual pattern. This design will be used to achieve the objectives of the study. The data will be collected first quantitatively and then qualitatively. Questionnaires and interviews will be used to collect data from academic staff of 12 faculties serving on permanent and contract basis. Data will be analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings of the study will be significant for librarians in addressing the barriers in the use of the scholarly literature available to the community and will guide librarians to devise a strategy of ejournals effective and efficient access to the community.
