Psychological Impact of COVID-19 on University Students of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (Pakistan) and Their Survival

Background: COVID-19 is spreading quickly, producing excessive compact of distress and dissention in the community. Methods: The cross-sectional survey was used among students of University of Peshawar Pakistan. The designed questionnaire (hard and soft form) to measure anxiety, stress and depression under defined scales and survival strategies was used for assessment. Results: A total of 800 participants 59.0% females, 41.0% Males with mean age (22.98 ± 2.918 years,) participated in the study. The frequency of students having moderate anxiety, stress and depression (at their score range) was approximately 30.9%, 12.1% and 35.1% correspondingly. Psychological Impairment and Coping Strategies during the COVID-19 Pandemic among Students in Pakistan: A Cross-Sectional Analysis

High levels of stress are expected when crises affect people’s lives. Therefore, this web-based, cross-sectional study was conducted among university students from Pakistan to investigate the psychological impairment and coping strategies during COVID-19 pandemic. Google forms were used to disseminate the online questionnaire to assess anxiety (Generalized Anxiety disorder-7), depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9) and the coping strategies (Brief-COPE). A total of 1134 responses (age 21.7±3.5 years) were included. The frequency of students having moderate-severe anxiety and depression (score ≥ 10) were ≍ 34% and 45%, respectively. The respondents’ aged ≥ 31 years had significantly lower depression score than those ≤ 20 years (p = 0.047). Psychosocial reactions of Pakistani Students towards COVID-19: A prevalence study

Background: The current study aimed at investigating the manifestation and prevalence of the commonly reported psychosocial reactions in the university students following the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was carried out during April to May, 2020 in the city of Lahore. Based on the interviews and presenting problems of thirty-nine self-referred students to student counselling service center, a list of twenty-seven self-report measure was presented through an online cross-sectional survey of 510 students enrolled in a private institute. The age range of the participants was between 17-26 years (M, 21.86; SD, 2.94). Coping with COVID-19: The Strategies Adapted by Pakistani Students to Overcome Implications

COVID-19 has speedily immersed the globe with 72+ million cases and 1.64 million deaths, in a span of around one year, disturbing and deteriorating almost every sphere of life. This study investigates how students in Pakistan have coped with the COVID-19. Zung’s self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) was used for measuring anxiety and the coping strategies were measured on four strategies i.e., seeking social support, humanitarian, acceptance, and mental disengagement. Among 494 respondents, 61% were females and 77.3% of the students were in the age group of 19–25 years. The study findings indicate that approximately 41 percent of students are experiencing some level of anxiety, including 16% with severe to extreme levels. Purpose: This study examines the relationship between psychological distress (depression, anxiety, and stress) and coping strategies among the students of a private university in Bangladesh during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: A cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted from September 2020 to December 2021 on 951 respondents using the DASS-21 and Brief-COPE questionnaires. With the outbreak of a global pandemic, people were faced with many difficulties such as financial and health issues, including psychological problems. There was a sharp rise in mental health issues as people were advised to observe social distancing resulting in social isolation. The present study examined three measures of psychological distress among the undergraduate student population: depression, anxiety, and stress. It also sought to study differences in academic years and gender on measures of psychological distress. A convenient and snowball sample of 1032 undergraduate students, aged between 17 and 25 years (M=21.81, SD = 1.99), filled out a survey. Aim: The current study is aimed at identifying and validating the psychosocial reactions of university students to current pandemic COVID-19. Methods: Mixed-methods research design was used.
