Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANETs): A Review

International Journal of Innovative Research in Computer and Communication Engineering, 2015

A Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network or VANET is a sub form of Mobile Ad-Hoc Network or MANET that provides communication between vehicles and between vehicles and road-side base stations with an aim of providing efficient and safe transportation. A vehicle in VANET is considered to be an intelligent mobile node capable of communicating with its neighbours and other vehicles in the network. VANET introduces more challenges aspects as compare to MANET because of high mobility of nodes and fast topology changes in VANET. Various routing protocols have been designed and presented by researchers after considering the major challenges involved in VANETs This paper provides a survey of routing protocols for VANET . It covers application areas, challenges and security issues prevailing in VANETs.

A BASIC SURVEY ON VEHICULAR AD-HOC NETWORK

VEHICULAR AD-HOC NETWORK: VANET

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks, (VANET) are a particular kind of Mobile Ad Hoc Network, (MANET), in which vehicles act as nodes and each vehicle is equipped with transmission capabilities which are interconnected to form a network. The topology created by vehicles is usually very dynamic and significantly non-uniformly distributed and this technique is also known as Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).VANETs is a kind of special wireless ad hoc network .VANET has become an active area of research, standardization, and development because it has tremendous potential to improve vehicle and road safety, traffic efficiency and convenience as well as comfort to both drivers and passengers .The aim of this review paper is to give an overview of the vehicular ad hoc networks, its characteristics , the existing VANET routing protocol, Security and privacy, applications.

Research Issues on Vehicular Ad hoc Network

Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is a kind of special wireless ad hoc network, which has the characteristics of high node mobility and fast topology changes. VANET has become an active area of research, standardization, and development because it has tremendous potential to improve vehicle and road safety, traffic efficiency and convenience as well as comfort to both drivers and passengers. Vehicular networks will not only provide safety and lifesaving applications, but they will become a powerful communication tool for their users. This paper presents the aspects related to this field to help researchers and developers to understand and distinguish the main features surrounding VANET.

A Survey on Vehicular Ad hoc Networks

Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs), a subclass of mobile ad hoc network (MANET), is a promising approach for the intelligent transport system (ITS). VANET allows vehicles to form a self-organized network without the need for a permanent infrastructure. As the VANET has a potential in improving road safety, real time traffic update and other travel comforts, it turns attention of the researcher. Though VANET and MANET shares some common characteristics like self-organized network, dynamic topology, ad hoc nature etc., VANET differs from MANET by challenges, application, architecture, power constraint and mobility patterns, so routing protocols used in MANET are not applicable with VANET. New routing strategy for VANET has been proposed by many researchers in recent year. This paper provides focus on the various aspects of VANET like architecture, characteristic, challenges, glimpse of routing protocols, and simulation models used for VANET.

STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF A ROUTING IN VEHICULAR AD HOC NETWORKS

In this article, we introduce the new emerging technology to achieve smart communications and the efficiency of the inter-vehicle throughput. These characteristics can be achieved only by the special network technology that is Vehicular Ad Hoc Network(VANET). It is the Integrated ad hoc network for Wireless LAN (WLAN) and Cellular Technology. These type of VANETs are developed in Hybrid Network type and hence, it is different from other networks architectures and characteristic features. This technology became popular and varies in working research challenges and designs in efficient routing protocol. Here, we describe the routing technology of VANETs and recent surveyed routing protocols and also the related models.

Performance Analysis of Vehicular Ad-Hoc Network (VANET)

2020

Wireless technology is advancing rapidly with time. People are doing research nowadays mostly in the field of telecommunication. VANET is the most growing research area in wireless communication. With the advancement and maturity of the VANET, there will be a great revolution in the field of wireless communication in terms of fast handovers, network availability, security, safety with the use of advanced applications etc. VANET technology is advancing with the passage of time but there are many issues that have to be addressed to make the network more vigorous. In view of aforesaid, in this project we have studied and discussed various works related to the applications, protocols and security in VANET. Moreover, after reviewing the existing works, we have analyzed them and found the pros and cons for the future research.

SIMULATION BASED AND ANALYSIS OF ROUTING PROTOCOLS FOR VANET USING VANETMOBISIM AND NS-2

Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) is a distributed, self-organizing communication networks built up by vehicles traveling on the streets; with expected to benefit in safety applications, and disseminating real-time traffic congestion. VANET is thus characterized by very high speeds and limited degrees of freedom in nodes movement patterns, such particular features often make standard networking protocols inefficient and effect on performance of routing protocols. Therefore, routing protocols in VANET is become a challenging task. This research paper analyzes routing protocol based on the performance metrics like packet delivery ratio, average end-to-end delay and throughput of the network under VANET environments using a network simulator (Ns-2) for simulating network connection and VanetMobiSim for generating the mobility pattern of vehicles. This experiment has provided insight into the performance of routing protocols for urban random scenario. Finding indicates simulation of different number of nodes only marginally affected VANET routing performance in our experimental settings.
