Einleitung in das Alte Testament. Ein historisch-kanonischer Ansatz (original) (raw)

2023, Einleitung in das Alte Testament

This introduction to the Old Testament, edited by Hendrik Koorevaar and Walter Hilbrands sheds light on the background of the origin of the books of the Old Testament and provides insights into their structure and theology. The authors break new ground in introductory scholarship by, on the one hand, taking the biblical texts seriously as historical testimonies and, on the other, attaching great importance to their position and significance in the canon of the Old Testament. The starting point is the testimony of the Old Testament authors and their texts themselves. The historical and chronological data of the Old Testament are taken seriously and re-examined in the light of the current state of research. In this way, the histo-canonical approach courageously points out new paths beyond a mainstream entrenched in the 19th century view of history. The general introductory questions, such as the form of the text and its transmission, the origin of the canon, chronology and literary genres, are dealt with as well as the specific questions concerning each book of the Bible, i.e. the author, the time of origin, the structure and the literary uniformity of the book. This introduction is a European project, produced with the collaboration of an expert team of 32 authors active in teaching and research.
