It attributes to the high risk of coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis which is referred as a silent killer. Obesity and Atherosclerosis are the most common cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. A number of drugs are available that can lower the serum lipids. Their use can be limited by tolerability and adverse effects like hepatitis, rhabdomyolysis, myopathy etc. At present, herbal anti-hyperlipidemic drugs have gained importance to compensate the setbacks of modern allopathic drugs in this category. Many plants in Siddha medicine have been reported to be beneficial in hyperlipidemia.
