Blockscripts -- a Blockchain System for University Transcripts
2019
Our team created a blockchain solution named Blockscripts to hold a student's transcript information, and or diplomas. The information is stored in a digital format, which can be retrieved easily by the student, faculty, or an interested third party i.e. a university with a prospective doctoral or master’s program. Having records in a digital format allows a student to have an official record that cannot be changed, yet be publicly available for authorized viewers, eliminating the need for intermediaries such as the university registrar's office. This is beneficial for the student, the university, and any prospective employers as the process takes less time for verification. Creating and storing records in this way also ensures the digital transcripts and diplomas cannot be repudiated or altered in any way. Additionally, blockchain technology provides a secure platform for storing transcripts due to the nature of decentralized data storage. As such, if one node in the blockc...
A Blockchain-based Educational Record Repository
ArXiv, 2019
The Blockchain technology was initially adopted to implement various cryptocurrencies. Currently, Blockchain is foreseen as a general purpose technology with a huge potential in many areas. Blockchain-based applications have inherent characteristics like authenticity, immutability and consensus. Beyond that, records stored on Blockchain ledger can be accessed any time and from any location. Blockchain has a great potential for managing and maintaining educational records. This paper presents a Blockchain-based Educational Record Repository (BcER2) that manages and distributes educational assets for academic and industry professionals. The BcER2 system allows educational records like e-diplomas and e-certificates to be securely and seamless transferred, shared and distributed by parties.
Recording of Academic Transcript Data to Prevent the Forgery based on Blockchain Technology
Advances in Science, Technology and Engineering Systems Journal, 2021
Diploma certificate and transcript forgery is a serious issue in education. The government is still finding the best way to prevent and minimize this issue in the future. The diploma certificate and transcript are very easy to duplicate, not only from third parties. Even the university can easily produce a fake diploma certification and transcript for their benefit. Blockchain technology is a new technology and now can be used to prevent the fake graduation documents. This research shows the simulation of blockchain technology used (Multichain) for data recording of academic transcript as one of the graduation documents. FGD has been carried out by inviting several reputable universities to validate the prototype. As a result, the FGD participants validated the prototype and agreed if it possible to be implemented in university, especially for recording the academic transcript data. Recording the academic transcript on blockchain technology can contribute to prevent forgery.
EPPR: Using Blockchain For Sharing Educational Records
2019 Sixth HCT Information Technology Trends (ITT), 2019
There have been recent, marked increases in the challenges of privacy, data interoperability and quality of Educational Professional Personal Record (EPPR). This calls into question the current model, in which different parties generate, exchange and monitor massive amounts of personal data related to EPPR. Ethereum blockchain has demonstrated that trusted, auditable transactions is visible using a decentralized network of nodes accompanied by a general ledger. Thus, the rapid development of educational and professional data generators such as online universities and distance learning, learners need to engage in detail into their EPPR as well as the educational and professional data generators. In this paper, we propose a novel decentralized approach to manage EPPR using Ethereum blockchain technology. The decentralized approach provides the owner of the EPPR a comprehensive immutable log and ease of access to their educational records across the educational record editors and consumers. Utilizing Ethereum blockchain features, can provide solutions with the main concerns of exchanging data between parties such as privacy, accountability and data interoperability. The aim of this approach is to also facilitate educational stakeholders (universities and employing agencies) to participate in the network as blockchain miners rewarded by pseudonymized data in compliance with General Data Protection Rules (GDPR) in United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Blockchain Based Framework for Securing Students’ Records
Journal of Engineering Research and Sciences
Right now, colleges, as focuses of exploration and development, coordinate in their cycles different advances that permit further developing administrations and cycles for their individuals. Among the inventive innovations is the Web of Things that permits getting information from the climate and individuals through various gadgets. Security of information on college grounds is expected to shield basic information and data from unapproved parties. One way of ensuring information is to apply the study of blockchain innovation to perform information encryption. There is a wide assortment of calculations utilized to encrypt information; however, this exploration centers around the SHA-256 encryption. Subsequently, this examination is pointed toward fostering a blockchain-based structure framework for getting understudies' records. These outcomes lead to further developing cycles and settling on better choices that further develop the administrations accessible at the college. Blockchain innovation is otherwise called appropriated record innovation, and It permits members to get the settlement of exchanges, accomplish the exchange, and move resources for a minimal price. In this manner, an examination will be done on the blockchain empowered college framework for getting understudies' records. The framework advancement philosophy taken on to improve this framework is the cascade procedure and Laravel for programming. Blockchain innovation can assist clients with putting away understudy records securely.
An Evaluation of Security in Blockchain-based Sharing of Student Records in Higher Education
International Journal of Network Security & Its Applications
Blockchain has recently taken off as a disruptive technology, from its initial use in cryptocurrencies to wider applications in areas such as property registration and insurance due to its characteristic as a distributed ledger which can remove the need for a trusted third party to facilitate transactions. This spread of the technology to new application areas has been driven by the development of smart contracts – blockchain-based protocols which can automatically enforce a contract by executing code based on the logic expressed in the contract. One exciting area for blockchain is higher education. Students in higher education are ever more mobile, and in an ever more agile world, the friction and delays caused by multiple levels of administration in higher education can cause many anxieties and hardships for students as well as potential employers who need to examine and evaluate student credentials. Distance learning as a primary platform for higher education promises to open up ...

In this solution, the development stages of the platform, the system architecture, and the operation of the API have been carried out, resulting in a platform that constitutes the first step towards a more transparent and technologically advanced way of managing the certifications of the students' qualifications.
Blockchain in Higher Education: A Secure Traceability Architecture for Degree Verification
IntechOpen eBooks, 2023
College fraud, driven by the demand for diplomas in the labor market, has become a pervasive global phenomenon. This multi-billion-dollar industry poses a significant challenge, as almost every employer is susceptible to encountering fraudulent diplomas. The lack of transparency in the accreditation process and university data systems necessitates trust in intermediaries, including students, faculty, and university officials, to verify the legitimacy of credentials. However, this trust-based system leaves room for errors and fraudulent activities, leading to the proliferation of fake diplomas. Blockchain technology emerges as a potential solution, promising trustless and transparent systems that eliminate the need for intermediaries or central authorities in transactions between strangers. By leveraging blockchain, a distributed digital platform can be developed, fostering integrity and trust among participants from different industries. Within the context of certificate systems, blockchain offers the means to establish a secure and tamper-proof record of credentials. Each certificate or diploma can be digitally signed and stored on the blockchain, ensuring its authenticity and preventing unauthorized modifications or forgery. This enables direct access and verification of credentials by employers, bypassing the reliance on potentially untrustworthy intermediaries.
