PARTICIPATIVE LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS ASSOCIATED WITH HEAD TEACHERS IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN KITALE TOWN, KENYA

The study sought to find out the participative characteristics associated with head teachers in primary schools in Kitale Town. The general objective was to determine why there are disparities in head teachers' leadership using teamwork yet all teachers were trained in the same way at college. The target population was all teachers, pupils and head teachers in Kitale Town, which were 644 teachers, 19110 pupils and 48 head teachers. A sample size of 10 head teachers in ten schools which had 108 teachers and 180 Standard Eight pupils was selected. Questionnaires and interview schedules were used in data collection. Nine participative leadership characteristics were identified to be associated with head teachers in the selected primary schools. The levels of significance were such that seven out of the nine characteristics were statistically significant. The study conclusion was that not all participative leadership characteristics are applied all the time by head teachers in primary schools in Kitale Town.

Influence of Leadership Styles on Teachers' Job Satisfaction: A case of selected Primary Schools in Songea and Morogoro Districts, Tanzania

This study reports on the kind of school leadership style that best suits for promoting teachers' job satisfaction in primary schools in Tanzania. The study employed cross sectional research design with samples of 200 teachers from 20 selected primary schools in Songea and Morogoro districts. Interviews, documentary analysis and questionnaires were used to collect data. The data were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively using tables, frequencies and percentages. It was found that the democratic leadership style was the most dominant in best performing primary schools. It is therefore suggested that there is much to be learnt with democratic leadership style as a copying strategy in least performing primary schools. Moreover, level of teachers' job satisfaction was reportedly high in best performing schools compared to least performing schools. The findings commended that democratic leadership style is the one which promotes high teachers' job satisfaction among teachers in primary schools.

Relationship between Demographic Characteristics and Leadership Styles on Teachers Job Satisfaction in Primary Schools Kenya: A Case of Nakuru County

This study explored demographic characteristics and leadership styles to job satisfaction of teachers'. The study was conducted among a random sample of 348 primary school teachers from Nakuru County, Kenya. A researcher developed questionnaire was administered. Descriptive statistics in the form of percentages, means and frequencies were used for analysis and presentation. In addition spearman's coefficient correlation analysis was used to predict relationships between variables. Teacher job satisfaction was found to be influenced by job demands, school resources and work-related relationships. No significant relationship was found between demographic characteristics and teachers' job satisfaction however, academic qualifications were significantly associated to job satisfaction. Recommendations for staffing and resource allocation are given.
