The problem of theoretical basis for designing the models of training teaching staff able to work in specialized engineering and technology classes has been relevant abroad for more than half a century. In our country the significance of its studying has increased again because of the state tasks of economic development based on the latest engineering and technological advances. The experience of training participants for Olympiads and contests of the National Technology Initiative shows high efficiency of the work done by professional engineers with students. The involvement of people with non-pedagogical engineering education in pedagogical activity requires the search for evidence-based forms of intensive training, among which the authors give priority to internship. The productivity of training such personnel depends on a theoretically based design of internship programs, where the selection of planned results plays a crucial role. The goal of the research is to determine the principles for selecting the perspective results of engineering-technology pedagogical internship. Thorough theoretical analysis done on the basis of more than 150 texts including a cluster of professional standards of an engineering group, federal state educational standards of higher education for areas of engineering training implemented at universities of Krasnoyarsk region, professional standards “Teacher” and “Teacher of additional education for children and adults” made it possible to single out universal and professional competencies that were compared with the results of a study done by UNESCO and OECD on competencies of the XXI century, the syllabus of engineering training programs in the CDIO concept. Among the universal competencies teamwork and self-development are paid special attention to. Among professional competencies, pedagogical proper and engineering pedagogical ones are pointed out. On the basis of the analysis of foreign and local models of the pedagogical internship, such normative-based practices for achieving the planned results as a scientific and methodological seminar, independent work in the information-activity environment, internships, tutorial practice in engineering competitions, and demonstration exam are specified. They may have any technological (industrial) content and provide training for people with engineering education to work as educators.

Development of Characteristic Internship Program on Engineering Education
Journal of Engineering Education Research, 2014
A practice on learn-by-doing career education programs has been operated in Faculty of Engineering in Niigata University from 2006. The purpose of the activity is reduction of early unemployment which is due to the gaps between the situations which university students would expect in their job hunting processes and those of their practical work places after getting jobs. We developed a novel internship program to let the students notice the practical situations of engineers outside the university. A major part of the program is composed of two different kinds of internships and what we call a career design workshop. The characteristic programs are called "Market Internship" and "Technology Internship". In the activities, they are organically connected with each other. In the paper we refer to one of the unique internship programs "Technology Internship", which is characterized as a longer-term practice than usual. In the course of one-month internship practices, the students obtained deeper understandings and closer relationship to the practical work places of the companies than usual internships which last less than two weeks. The students estimated these unique experiences effective for their job hunting in near future.

Internship is a period of time in which students can gain work experience related to what they have learned in their study programme. Debre Berhan University introduced internship programme to provide students with a smooth transition from the academic world to the working environment. The main objective of this research was to investigate the challenges facing internship programme for engineering students as a learning experience. This study was a descriptive research with the target population being all intern students, their lecturers, internship coordinator and intern company supervisors. Purposive sampling was used in selecting the sample for students and their lecturers while cluster sampling was used in selecting the intern company supervisors. Data was collected using semi-structured questionnaires and an interview and analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative techniques with Excel and Matlab. The study concluded that internship was facing many challenges included lack of adequate guidance and support to students during the internship, lack of adequate funds and little time allocated for internship visits, reversed priority of the roles played by the intern company supervisors and short duration of time for internship and report compiling. The researcher recommends that internship should be planned and implemented as a valid learning experience right from the start by allocating adequate funds to support the intern students and for supervision, allocating enough internship duration to enable the university to maintain vital link with the intern students and the industry.

Education Quarterly Review, 2019
Introduction: Educationalists and policy makers in the higher educational institutes have recently paid a closer attention to the concept of holistic education systems that focus at making a competent and versatile graduate. Incorporating an industrial internship programme in the degree curricular has been a vital requirement towards ensuring a holistic education system. Most of the educational scientists have emphasized the importance of letting the undergraduates to gain industrial exposure as a strategy to securing employability soon after their graduation. The objective of this paper is to explore the effectiveness of the industrial internship programme offered by Department of Textile of the University of Moratuwa (UoM) in collaboration with one of the leading apparel manufacturers in Sri Lanka. This paper also aims to identify existing weaknesses in the industrial training programme offered by the Department of Textile and to provide suggestions for improving the effectiveness of internship programme. Methodology: This study adopts the case study approach and as such study covers the students of the Department of Textiles who are undergoing training at the selected industrial training provider. Sample size used for the study represents 24 respondents out of the 67 undergraduates who completed industrial internship programme during the last three years and it represents approximately 35% of the population. Data were gathered by way of distributing a structured questionnaire followed by a semi structured interview for the selected sample. Findings and Conclusions: As per the findings of the study the students' positive learning experiences are the chance to build up a relationship with the industry, acquire industry work culture, develop self-confidence, execute problem solving activities, develop social interaction skill, and aspire future education and career. However, the students negatively ranked the internship programme in providing opportunities for creativity build up activities, working in teams, develop managerial skills, enhance research and project skills and desire to go on learning. Students' feedback was positive for providing a real job experience, transport, meal and good allowance. However, they have shown negative feedback on the overall structure of the internship programme since it fails to provide them an overall training covering the whole departments of the organization. Students suggest that the duration of the internship programme should be twelve months instead of six months. Study further suggests that there should be a closure dialogue between the university and the internship provider in order to address the issues face by both the interns and the training provider.
