With rapid technological advances, users worldwide have access to various data and content on the internet, including pornographic content. The availability of pornographic videos on the internet harms the morale and image of adolescents and adults of both sexes. This study aims to determine the gender-specific relationship between pornography motivation, sexual arousal, and sexual satisfaction with Internet Pornography-Viewing-Disorder (IPD). This type of research is quantitative. Convenience sampling was used in conducting the approach, and 202 participants filled out the distributed Google forms. The respondents of this study were online pornography users from Malaysia and Indonesia. Data was collected using an online questionnaire through social networking sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive data analysis. Despite the wide accessibility to internet, pornography activities among youths are not well described in conservative countries like Malaysia. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, elicit gender differences and identify associated factors of pornographic exposure including perceived realism among college students. This cross-sectional study was conducted among students aged 18 to 25 years from seven colleges in Penang, Malaysia. A self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain data on socio-demographic characteristics, pornography exposure, pattern of use, sexual exposure and perceived realism. Among 986 participants, the prevalence of lifetime pornography exposure was 74.5%. More males (71.7%) were exposed to pornography, had started at earlier age, were frequent users and using the internet alone at home (p < 0.001). Males had higher odds of having exposure (Adjusted odds ratio, AOR = 20.44, 95% CI: 12.50-33.42, p < 0.001), whilst those who perceived pornography as real had lower odds of having pornographic exposure (AOR = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.43-0.94, p = 0.02). There is a high prevalence of pornography exposure among Malaysian college students, especially involving males. Easy access to pornographic materials at home facilitates this activity. Gender and perceived realism determined their pornographic exposure. Thus, parental monitoring of online access and planning structured activities to occupy free time are recommended at an early age.
Behind Digital Screen: A Thematic Analysis of Pornography Views in Malaysia's Youth
International journal of academic research in business & social sciences, 2023
Pornography consumption is a pervasive issue in contemporary society, with particular significance among student populations. Despite its ubiquity, the negative ramifications of pornography on various facets of life-mental health, relationships, and attitudes-remain largely underexplored, especially among students in South Asian contexts. The current study aims to fill this research gap by investigating the perceptions of first-year undergraduate students at a public university in Malaysia. Utilizing a qualitative research methodology, 21 students were invited to pen self-reflective papers on their views and experiences related to pornography consumption. These responses were subsequently subjected to thematic analysis, revealing four major themes: prevalence, motivators, impact, and potential solutions. The study confirmed that students generally perceive pornography to be highly prevalent, attributing its widespread use to a variety of factors such as easy accessibility via

Background: Studies have shown that viewing internet pornography is like addiction. Addictions have been implicated in the development of psychosocial issues. It is important to develop an indigenous tool for the assessment of psychosocial issues in individuals viewing internet pornography. Objective: The current study was aimed to develop a scale for the assessment of psychosocial issues associated with internet pornography in male university students. Methodology: Initially, twenty five male university students were interviewed individually and item pool was generated by 40 different psychosocial issues statements explained by them. After the exclusion of dubious and repetitive items, the scale of 37 items with 3-point rating was given to twenty university male students for the pilot study. Finally, the scale with 37 items was administered on 200 university male students. Results: By using Principle Component Factor Analysis through Varimax Rotation the results extracted four fact...

Background: The sustained rise in negative mental health reports among university students is a source of continued global concern, and investigation continues into potential contributors to this rise. This includes the increased prevalence of risky sexual behaviors. Related is the increased prevalence of pornography use. Our study sought to explore the potential relationship between compulsive use of pornography and mental health in university students. Methods: Our sample consisted of university students (N = 1031; 34% male, 66% female) from Franciscan University of Steubenville, Steubenville, Ohio. An anonymous survey was sent to all students at the university over the age of 18. The survey was comprised of the following: (1) demographic questions, (2) questions on pornography use and perception, (3) a modified version of the Compulsive Internet Use Scale (mCIUS) assessing various factors associated with compulsive internet pornography use, (4) questions assessing emotional and sexual states relative to pornography use (EmSS), and (5) the 21-question version of the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Results: Our results indicate that 56.6% of those surveyed reported lifetime pornography use, with a significantly higher proportion of males than females reporting such use. The majority of students reported accessing pornography through internetrelated technologies. Additionally, 17.0, 20.4, and 13.5% of students reported severe or extremely severe levels of depression, anxiety and stress, respectively, with compulsive pornography use significantly affecting all three mental health parameters in both sexes. Exploratory Factor Analysis identified three factors suggesting emotional coping, dependence and preoccupation for the mCIUS items and three factors reflecting interoceptive, impotent, and extrinsic characteristics for the EmSS items. Regression analysis indicated that various demographics, items pertaining to reduced control and social impairment, and other variables pertaining to pornography use predicted mental health outcomes. Faith, morals and personal motivation were the primary variables reported to help reduce pornography use.

Background: Pornographic use has been associated with poor mental health consequences. This crosssectional study aimed to examine the relationship between problematic pornography use and mental health issues among adolescents in Bangladesh. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design to evaluate the relationship between problematic pornography uses with mental health status of adolescents in Bangladesh. The survey, which involved demographic questions and scales like the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), the General Anxiety Disorder-7, and the Brief Pornography Screen, included a sample of 601 teenagers. Data were analyzed using hierarchical linear regression models after the scales underwent step-by-step validation. Results: It was discovered that boys scored higher (6.71) than girls (3.16), with the mean score for problematic pornography use (PPU) being 5.13. The Brief Pornography Scale revealed substantial relationships with anxiety (r=0.358), loneliness (r=0.382), and perceived social support (r=0.276). The structural modeling equation and hierarchical linear regression analysis showed that problematic use of pornography was associated with being male (r=0.26 to 0.45, p=0.001), higher monthly family cost (r=0.12 to 0.33, p=0.05), accessing pornography online (r=-0.14 to-0.27, p=0.05), consuming pornography through TV/DVD/downloaded videos (r=-0.44 to-0.55). However, the RSES scale did not reveal any correlation between problematic pornography consumption and self-esteem. Conclusion: This study found signi cant relationship with problematic pornography use and mental health status of Bangladeshi adolescent. It emphasizes the signi cance of raising awareness about the danger of problematic pornography use. The results of this study highlight the necessity for focused interventions and educational initiatives addressing the possible hazards connected to this population's pornographic use.
The Associations between Pornography Addiction and Moral Judgement among Youth in Malaysia
International Journal of Academic Research in Progressive Education and Development
Pornography addiction has become a widespread problem given the issues of mental health problems and sexually unappealing acts associated with it. The dominant explanation for this problem is how pornography is able to affect one's moral foundation moderated by other factors such as personality, political ideology and also one's age. However, the limitations in this study impeded this study to have a better and accurate result such as the use of convenience sampling, acquiescence bias, low number of respondents and inability to determine the causality of this study. In this cross-sectional study, we used a convenience sampling method to collect data from respondents that were young adults. Then utilized the hierarchical multiple regression analysis and Pearson correlation to find the association between pornography addiction and one's moral judgement. One-Way ANOVA test and Ttest was used to investigate the role of demographic factors i.e. age and gender upon the two dominant variables. These research findings indicate association of pornography addiction upon one's moral foundation i.e. the Betrayal/Loyalty, Subversion/Authority and Degradation/Sanctity. There were differences of pornography addiction based on age and gender. Additionally, the difference was found on moral judgment of Loyalty/Betrayal between male and female. Implications for future researchers who study pornography to use these results to expand the literature. Eventually, the impact of pornography addiction on people must be underlined so that it will be recognized at the national level.

Online pornography represents a complex experience. The identification of determinant characteristics of this experience may allow to reduce its negative effects and improve the preventive interventions in young people. This study aimed to identify, among expert opinions, the main pornography features, the type of effects related to its consumption, and the most appropriate interventions to face the negative consequences of this consumption in adolescents and young people. We invited an international multidisciplinary group of experts in pornography and sex education to be part of this study. A two-round electronic Delphi panel was undertaken with 30 experts. The used questionnaire asked about pornography definition, features, and effects, as well as interventions against the negative consequences of its consumption in adolescents. The main pornography features identified were: easy access, violent content, and changes in perception and attitudes regarding gender equality and sexuality. Some of the interventions against the negative consequences of pornography consumption were: social support in the maturation process, education of emotions, affections, and sexuality, as well as regulations in the access system to online pornography. On the one hand, the main pornography characteristics identified in this study might be one of the first steps to understand and analyze the actual state and impact of this huge phenomenon. On the other hand, the expert’s opinion regarding interventions might contribute to the development or improvement of strategies to prevent or minimize the negative effects of pornography consumption/exposition in adolescents and young people.
