Perceptions of undergraduates on credibility of news in Television and Facebook
The use of social networks and mass media among students in higher institutions has become popular and widely celebrated amidst criticisms. Because these social networks change the way people communicate, interact, investigate, and socialize. This research seeks to find out how university undergraduate students perceive the credibility of news in Television and Facebook. Simple random sampling method was used to select the sample and questionnaires were issued to 60 undergraduates in Trincomalee Campus. Cultivation theory was used as the theoretical approach for the study. According to the findings, it is revealed that every undergraduates use Facebook to be informed on the current events of the day. It is revealed that most of the students are heavy viewers among Facebook users spending more than four hours per day. But significantly, most of them consume television as the most credible information source. The undergraduates pointed out that Television news was ethical, credible, true, worthy, and believable. But Facebook share information timely before the television and impartial.
The Credibility of News Portal in Indonesia: An Exploratory Study
In journal publications and academic references shown that instead of defining what makes news appealing, what is widely researched is how a media is perceived and measured as credible compare to other media. Using similar approaches, this paper is exploring whether credibility also takes place in Indonesia particularly relating to the unresolved issues on media online (such as timeliness, interactivity, accuracy, privacy) or traditional publication on the Internet within Indonesian press system. This survey can be considered as a continuation from previous research on the searching of information seeking activity in consuming online news by digital native users. It is also as part of an effort to enrich the quality media and journalism studies conducted in other countries considering the nature of the Internet that can across borders and cover globally.
THE USE AND BELIEVABILITY OF SOCIAL NETWORKS NEWS AMONG NIGERIAN YOUTHS
This study examined the use of social networks news and their level of believability among young people in Nigeria. Since social networks involve users " generated content, the sources and truthfulness of these contents are sometimes iffy. With the credibility problem associated with social media news, it is necessary to determine the extent to which social media users believe the news content they receive from these social networks. This study adopted the survey research design with a sample size of 300 young people. The findings show that social networks have become a major source of news among young people because of the networks " interactivity, connectivity, immediacy and speed of dissemination. Besides, over 70% prefer the use of social media to traditional mass media due mainly to convenience. However, the level of believability of social network is still very low; an indication of low-level credibility of the social media. It is, therefore, necessary that social network users ensure exchange of credible information and users should always crosscheck information obtained with other available sources before acceptance and possible second dissemination.

As such, they are always in the business of finding facts about their environments and other phenomena that affect them. Part of which started through interactions with one another, going down memory lane of the history of communication via intrapersonal to group communication. As time went by, one popular method from the days of the Roman empire where humans seek information from, is the mass media which revolutionized from the print media, which started from Its publishing practices centered on acta diurna (daily events). It was a handwritten news sheets posted by the government in the public marketplace from the year 59 BC to at least AD 222 (Encarta, 2009). As time went on, the print media advanced when a German, Johannes Gutenberg invented to Gutenberg Press, where actual printing was done on metals by creating metallic plates placed on papers, consumed by those in the West (Daramola, 2005). This gave way for mass production of books consumed by readers. Humans also advanced in their technology when the broadcast media consisting of radio and television, which were publicly used in 1895 and 1936 respectively (Daramola, 2005). These allowed the transmission of media message to wide variety of heterogeneous and homogenous audience in real time.

Perception of Credibility of Social Media Sources of News among Journalists in Nigeria

New dimensions and twists associated with the use of social media for journalism practice are directly linked to the question of credibility of news sources among journalists in Nigeria. This formed the kernel of this exploratory study. Anchored on the tenets of cultivation theory, this study investigated perception of credibility of social media sources of news among journalists in Nigeria. Out of the 578 journalists proportionately selected from the major media organisations in Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, as participants, 567 actively participated in this study. Data were analysed by means of content analysis and descriptive statistics. Highlights of the findings reveal that journalists in Nigeria use social media as news sources infrequently. It was also found that they perceive news on social media as unreliable. Findings also show a significant relationship between how journalists perceive the credibility of news on social media and their age, gender and years of experience. The study concluded that irrespective of the perceived credibility of news on social media; journalists cannot ignore the platform. Therefore, journalists and members of the public should continue to draw from benefits of social media without compromising the ethics of the journalism.
The role of journalists, and journalism has progressed into a more digitalized journalism. Social Networking Sites (SNSs) allow people to take part in online activities and remove the barrier for online users to publish and share information at any place at any time. Among various social media, this review limits its review scope to SNSs, which have been considered to be the most pertinent social medium used in the field of communication management. This paper intends to show that credibility of social media is the key factor that enhances public engagement and communication effectiveness in the digital/social media. This paper is intended to elicit the factors that could affect the credibility of news from SNSs. Specifically, this article reviews on the needs to study journalist perspectives and attitudes on the credibility of news published on SNSs sites, and found few variables that could affect the credibility of the media and the news, which is linked to journalistic work. These include: the interactive media, technology acceptance, quality of news' source, and the exposure of the media. The review of the literature suggests the dire research needs to focus on journalists' perspectives and attitudes towards the new media to ensure credibility of news and journalism is continuously sustained and improved. This study contributes to the existing literature that social networking sites contribute to the communication between people and institutions more effectively than other media. This study examines the urgent need to study the views of journalists about the credibility of social networking sites as a new source of news.
Exploratory Study on Audience Perception of Information Credibility on Media Platforms in Ghana

Using a focus group discussion, this study sought to understand how media audiences perceive information in the media environment in Ghana. The study found out that the prevalence of fake news on social media platforms serves as a disincentive to consumers of media messages from giving attention to information from some media platforms. Legacy media, radio and television, for many of the participants, present credible information on its platform with the belief that rigorous scrutiny is done by the media organisation before information is shared with their audiences on air. Though participants in the group discussions are often dismissive of media information they have doubts about, they occasionally, not routinely, verify information from news portals they deem credible. Participants also rely on their intuition to assess the truthfulness or otherwise of a story.
The credibility of the news on social networking sites among Jordanian journalists

Social Networking Site (SNS) has become an important source of news for journalists in the process of obtaining information and publishing news and articles. Hence, the credibility of the news published on SNS is an important subject for study because journalists are competing with citizens in the dissemination of news. The validity of information on SNS is questionable. The focus of this research is identifying the concept of credibility and the prominent credibility standards that must apply in publishing of news. This study examined the relationship between traditional factors in media, acceptance to use of technology, interactive media, quality of news source, exposure to SNS, and scoop with the credibility of news. The questionnaire was distributed to 375 respondents from 1042 registered journalists in the Jordan Press Association (JPA) using simple random sampling. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to verify the relationships between the variables. The findings of the study largely support the hypothesized relationships proposed in the study model. The factors used in traditional media, such as journalism ethics, editorial policy rules and laws, demonstrates a positive association with the credibility of news published on SNS to maintain its standards. Reliance on media technology adversely affect the credibility of news. Interactive media and quality of source were found to have a positive relationship with the credibility of news, thus increasing the level of credibility when journalists use SNS as a source of news. The findings have implications for knowledge of theories in understanding the relationship between using SNS as a news source and its credibility. The practical contribution of this study will assist journalists in dealing with news on SNS, in order to develop the best journalism practices, and makes recommendation for future research directions.
