Advanced Energy Metering System Using IOT

In recent times, there has been a swift advancement in the creation of smart cities. A smart city is a metropolitan area that makes use of cutting-edge technology for effective resource management and monitoring. The goal is to maximize energy and cost savings while simultaneously enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. With an emphasis on energy-related monitoring, a smart energy meter is the fundamental element that forms the basis for all data gathering, analysis, and automation. This paper describes how to turn a regular energy meter into a smart energy meter by adding an Arduino and a GSM module. With the help of the Internet of Things, this smart energy meter is further improved using IoT. An embedded controller (Arduino) and a GSM modem will be integrated by the smart energy meter system to transfer data over a GSM mobile network, such as generated invoices, spent energy in kWh, etc. IoT can be used to enable energy providers and power companies to monitor and control their customers' services without the need for human labour by providing them with the user -generated data. By connecting the smart meter to the Internet of Things, the user can access the data using a password and ID that has been issued from any location in the globe. Major energy companies will benefit from our project's user-friendliness, reduced labour costs, and decreased error and loss rates.

IRJET- DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SMART ENERGY METER USING IOT

Energy meter reading is a tedious and an expensive affair. The meter reader has to go and take the reading manually to issue the bill, which will later be entered in the software to automate the billing and payment system. This paper proposes a new technology for energy meter reading by IOT technology and web server along with the existing meters. An IOT modem will be integrated with electronic energy meter to read the parameter such as voltage, current, frequency and uploaded on server or website. Energy meter deliver the reading details and it is uploaded on the website instantly. This communication system is further useful for electricity regional/sub-regional office, who can monitor the power consumption, and they can identify the problems such as overload and power theft. Moreover, this problem is identified by using same website which is used for monitoring. In this project each customer is differentiated using address or ID, this ID are used for identification by the consumer and as well as by office to monitor the reading and payment details. An additional feature is provided to the user for controlling the power supply during in terms of emergency case.

IoT Based Electric Energy Meter

This research is to design an automated electric meter reading and billing system. It will replace human working system for taking reading. It will be helpful in knowing the daily electricity usage. The proposed system design eliminates the human involvement in Electricity maintenance. The Buyer needs to pay for the usage of electricity on schedule, in case that he couldn"t pay, the electricity transmission can be turned off autonomously from the distant server. The user can monitor the energy consumption in units from a web page by providing device IP address [1].

Design and Implementation of Smart Energy Meter for Residential Purpose

Measuring the energy consumed is the one of most important aspect of these modern days. Without keeping track of energy consumed by the customer there won't be efficient utilization of electricity. So, this project presents the Design and Development of Smart Energy Meter for Residential Purpose. This smart energy meter introduced here, makes use of GSM and IoT, measures the voltage, current, frequency, energy consumed and generates the bill for the usage of energy. The measured parameters will be sent to the authorities through GSM and WiFi for analysis and to take action accordingly. The customer can get the information of energy consumed and hence, can limit the usage of energy and either prepay or postpay. This meter can also cut off the power, if the bill is not paid on or before due date. Once the bill is paid the authorities will send control signal to the meter to reconnect the supply to load.

IoT based smart energy meter

In this system, the energy meter reading is calculated and uploaded to server through IOT using controller. Thereby, customer and officer can open the website and read the data to know the cost of electric bill. The power to home can be controlled through the website by EB officer like ON/OFF based on payment of electric bill. Current sensor is used to read the current drawn by the load from the power supply. Voltage sensor is used to identify the voltage drop and apply voltage to the load from power supply. Relay is used to control the power ON and OFF to the home. Using the voltage and current sensor the power consumption is identified by the ARDUINO microcontroller and these data are uploaded to the server or website through IOT modem. The worldwide energy demand is increasing and hence necessity measures need to be taken to reduce the energy wastage with proper metering infrastructure in the buildings. A Smart meter can be used to monitor electricity consumption of customers in the smart grid technology. For allocating the available resources proper energy demand management is required. During the past years, various methods are being utilized for energy demand management to precisely calculate the requirements of energy that is yet to come. A large system presents a potential esteem to execute energy conservation as well as additional services linked to energy services, extended as a competent with end user is executed. The supervising system at the utilities determines the interface of devices with significant advantages, while the communication with the household is frequently proposing particular structures for appropriate buyer-oriented implementation of a smart meter network. Also, this paper concentrates on the estimation of vitality utilization. In this paper energy is measured in units and also product arrangement is given to create bill for energy consumption and implementing in LabVIEW software. An IOT based platform is created for remote monitoring of the metering infrastructure in the real time. The data visualization is also carried out in webpage and the data packet loss is investigated in the remote monitoring of the parameters.

Paper introduces a system which provides a platform for a consumer to monitor the meter reading via “ThingSpeak” and control the energy consumption, it will also support in keeping the track of energy meter billing. This system helps us to reduce turmoil’s and energy related dissent. The system is implemented using Atmega328P microcontroller and ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. This system do not require the replacement of the energy meter but we associate this system with the installed energy meter that benefit the consumer, the base for designing and implementation of a system is IoT (Internet of Things). The instantaneous data will be fetched from the meter and uploaded on the ‘ThingSpeak’ IoT cloud platform.
